Had a brain freeze for a fraction of a second and thought "Greg" meant Greg Little. "Solid blocks" didn't compute

I know some people question whether he was sincere in his expressed desire to work with him.

For my part I believe he was, but that's a sore spot for some folks.

Recent reports make it look like Tepper was the guy who wanted (injured) Cam gone.

LaCanfora's speculation made it sound like Tepper wanted to replace Newton regardless, basically so he could have "his guy" in there.

Valid? Don't know, but other things I've read do make me wonder.

That's why I love football, it takes all 11 guys on the field. 

If Cam isn't a freak that play never happens. If Smith doesn't embarrass a trio of defenders Cam goes down well short of the goal line. If Olsen misses his block then the play never gets back to the line of scrimmage.

Honestly, that's the vibe I got from him. The ink on the papers wasn't even dry before Tepper started dropping hints that Cam may not be in the long-term plans.

Jourdan Rodrigue told us a long time back that both Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney were prepared to offer Newton an extension but Tepper said no.

I didn't want an extension, but I did want to stick with Cam through the final year of his contract. Sure, Cam probably wanted an extension and for all I know may have had Marty tell him one was coming or at least had conversations about one but I think that was a bridge that could've been crossed. I just didn't understand jettisoning Cam and no guaranteed money beyond last year for Teddy and significant guaranteed money moving forward. That never made any sense at all to me.

Looking at Newton last year, I think most of us agreed letting him go was the right call. Whether it was done for the right reasons is a separate question though.

That we whiffed on our first attempt to replace him is probably not something that would get a lot of argument.

If we were letting him go we should've embraced the tank mindset. Unfortunately, everything I said about Teddy and that signing proved spot on and I have no clue why anyone in the Panthers' organization expected anything other than exactly what we got.
