So basically, we are in the running which has been reported and posted about over and over and over.

Good thread.

If you believe this article is only about Watson, then I think you've missed the bigger picture. If La Canfora and his colorful language regarding obviously flawed QBs--or basically just below par QBs--is correct, then Tepper simply isn't going to put up with it. I could be wrong, but I think this bodes well for the long-term potential of the franchise and its fans.

Even if you think La Canfora is off his rocker, he really isn't the only one who has these beliefs about Tepper. Others have alluded to it, and have even referenced things Tepper had said. La Canfora has just been the most Candid.

LaCanfora is like Brett Favre as a  passer. He can be perfectly accurate, or he can be wildly off the mark.

And to be fair, we have heard these things before from Verge and others. The vast majority of this article is just LaCanfora finding different ways to say that David Tepper has big balls and wants a franchise quarterback.

Also have to admit the part where he says future first round picks are "just burning a hole in his pocket" is another one that made me cringe.

It doesn't take being much of an NFL fan or pundit to know that winning in the NFL without an elite QB is extremely difficult. Tepper sees that, as well.

More to the point, for the people that want to build the team first and then try and find our QB.....well....those experiments aren't really going that well in the NFL. The problem is that you rarely can keep that core together long enough to intersect with the careers of the team you have built.

The NFL salary cap isn't designed to keep dynasty teams and elite talent together.

Isn't that how Kansas City did it, though?

Kansas City was a good team long before he got there. That wasn't a "built and waiting for a franchise QB" scenario. They were already a very good team. It just so happened they took a gamble on a guy that turned into a fuging superstar.

To be fair, they built around Alex Smith first, likely with the understanding that Smith was not a franchise QB.

Well, those folks aren't very smart. They'll be proven so in the end.

Neither is Cal McNair, and that's a big part of the problem.

Any scenario depending on the idea that Cal McNair will suddenly wise up has some risk.

He will be traded. The Texans are just not smart enough to realize how fuged they are yet.

If it were just about any team other than the Texans, I'd say they were doing it right by showing a lack of interest in trading their QB.  It seems to have only intensified the rumor mill and raised the ante for Watkins in the media.
