From the article...

Don't expect the Texans to seriously entertain moving Watson until much closer to the draft – all the better to keep trying to drive the price up – but if/when they do, the Panthers will be motivated to make it happen. Yes, the Jets and Dolphins, for starters, may have more additional draft capital, but I suspect the Panthers will be willing to get quite creative (including emerging pass rushing force Brian Burns in any package may be even more attractive than McCaffrey, though that dual-threat running back could certainly kick start an offensive resurgence for any young QB should the Texans prefer to draft a passer in the event Watson is in fact dealt).

Yeah, with JJ gone if I am Houston I want:

Brian Burns

8, 2022 1st and 2023 1st

For starters

Honestly CMC and his contract don't interest me and I ain't taking Teddy either.

John McClain believed the asking price would include two defensive starters.

I know some folks are thinking the Texans would settle for somebody like Shaq Thompson but that doesn't really sound logical to me.

I’m not trying to be ugly but how in the hell would you know this

Verge's source is mostly a friend of his who is a pretty high up scout I believe for an AFC franchise and has generally been in the know. That doesn't mean that they're right about Watson as even those that are really connected in the league probably don't know, but Verge has a pretty spot on track record especially with draft related stuff the last several years. I take him much more seriously on draft stuff than I do any other local or national NFL media honestly.

Yeah, pretty much 😆

Joking aside, I'll be one of the first to acknowledge the Texans are stupid but even I don't think they're that stupid.

Could easily see them asking for Burns and Chinn, or at the very least Burns and Jackson. And while I'm not the biggest Donte Jackson fan, that still makes me wince.

Yep. The track record is proven, even when I'd greatly prefer it to be wrong. *cough* Greg Little *cough*

If you are down to give up 3 firsts or whatever, you have to be down to give up 4 as well.  Once you are in the game, you are in the game.  Realistically, there should be no price too high to get a guy like Watson.  First round picks are HUGELY over-valued by most people.  The Rams have not, and will not have a first round pick for nearly an entire decade, and they are one of the more successful teams around lately.  They deal their firsts for proven superstar players.  Not a bad model to follow.  Draft picks are unknowns.  Established talents are not.

You’re not wrong. But there has to be some line. I’d probably be better with giving four 1sts than three and cmc

Houston will want players over picks, so I have no problem with a Shaq Thompson + Burns if we only throw in 2 firsts.  But one of the players has to be a big contract, and Chinn and Burns is not that.  Now, we could offer TB (the contract purge), Burns and Chinn and a first rounder for Watson--but not 2 or 3 firsts.

That would give Houston an emergency, backup QB, a pass rusher, and a S/LB.  I would rather not lose Chinn, but if that is the deal, I count him as a first rounder.
