This isn't exactly the first time we've heard that though so it's not hard to believe.

There is no doubt about this scenario as Moton has emerged into one of the better tackles in the game. He isn't going anywhere. He is getting the tag, sources said, and the Panthers want to secure his services well into the future, with the extension Ronnie Stanley did midseason with the Ravens a possible template.

Yes, and maybe that comparison to Ronnie Stanley money is concerning. Love Moton and willing to pay him, but Stanley is getting top end LT money. Maybe Moton wants Stanley money and Panthers are stuck at top end RT money.

Stanley makes 19 million per year at left tackle and lane Johnson make 18 million per year at right tackle. So yeah, sounds right.

OTC estimates the franchise tag for an OL is about the same money (https://overthecap.com/franchise-transition-and-rfa-tenders/).

Seems reasonable as a starting point.

I've always thought we should move Moton to left tackle. I see no reason why, if we're going to pay him big money, we shouldn't do it now. I think he can be just as good on the left side as he's been on the right.

I'm for it, but I seem to be in the minority on that.

I'd argue it might make more sense this offseason than it ever has.

Technically we're not committed to it yet. We have until March 9th. I'm actually pretty sure nobody's designated a Franchise Tag yet. If they did, I missed it.

As far as what it means, not sure what it says about Samuel, but it probably does indicate that our offers and Moton's wishes aren't very close to each other.

He's been a workhorse for us the last 3 years (fug you Ron for benching him all of his rookie season), only missing a handful of snaps. And, IMO, been very good. I'd have no issue paying him $15-17M for the next 5 years, if he'd agree to it.

FWIW, tag price would be $14.5M.
