Heinicke...gets paid?

Hurney putting his stamp on the organization already, by paying a guy who was out of football for a year before coming back to play 1 game (fairly well, but besides the point) a cool 8.75 million (over 2 years) with additional money in incentives.  Yikes.

Good for him.

Hurney and Rivera got to watch him in Carolina for a year. They let him go.  1 game in DC and he has that contact.  You can't make this stuff up.

Just for fun...here is a summary of his career.  Note...he has been at this since 2015.  LMAO

Minnesota Vikings[edit]

Heinicke went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, but signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent.[23] He competed against Mike Kafka to back up Vikings starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater along with Shaun Hill. Kafka would get injured and was placed on injured reserve, making way for Heinicke to be the third string quarterback.[24]

On September 3, 2016, Heinicke was placed on the reserve/NFI list with an off-the-field injury suffered between minicamp and training camp.[25] He was activated to the active roster on November 8, 2016.[26]

On September 2, 2017, Heinicke was waived/injured by the Vikings and was placed on the injured reserve.[27] He was released with an injury settlement on September 11.[28]

New England Patriots[edit]

On September 23, 2017, Heinicke was signed to the New England Patriots' practice squad.[29] He was released on October 9, 2017.[30]

Houston Texans[edit]

On November 29, 2017, Heinicke was signed to the Houston Texans' practice squad.[31] He was promoted to the active roster on December 15, 2017, to back up T. J. Yates following an injury to Tom Savage.[32] On December 25, 2017, Heinicke made his NFL debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers after Yates suffered a possible concussion. However, after completing his only pass attempt, Heinicke suffered a concussion and was replaced by Yates, who had just passed the concussion protocol.[33][34] On April 13, 2018, Heinicke was waived by the Texans.[35]

Carolina Panthers[edit]

On April 16, 2018, Heinicke was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers.[36] During the 2018 season he appeared in six games with the Panthers including being named starter for Week 16 against the Atlanta Falcons after starter Cam Newton was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury.[37] In his start against the Atlanta Falcons, Heinicke went 33 for 53 for 274 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. During the game he suffered an elbow injury and was replaced at quarterback by Kyle Allen.[38] His injury was significant enough that he was placed on injured reserve for the Panthers final game of the year.[39]

On March 12, 2019, Heinicke re-signed with the Panthers.[40] He was released during final roster cuts on August 30, 2019.[41]

St. Louis BattleHawks[edit]

Heinicke was allocated to the St. Louis BattleHawks before the 2020 XFL Draft on November 22, 2019.[42] However, he did not see the field during the season

They're just looking at the reality of the situation that they may not be able to significantly upgrade that position this off-season and may need a bridge QB. I sure would rather be paying Heinicke $8.75M over two years than Teddy $63M over three.

Did you look at his history?  What says pay him that?  He can't stay healthy.....he could not even get on the field with the XFL.  Give him a contract on that 1 game...ok.  Not for that money though.  Happy for him but...there goes Hurney. LOL

Lots of teams desperate for a QB this season and Heinicke looked pretty decent when he got a shot. I mean, that's peanuts for a QB. Did they probably overpay a bit? Sure. But it's a helluva lot better than that joke of a Teddy contract.

^^^ Can easily imagine Marty saying something like this to Ron and Dan while discussing QB options for the upcoming season.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
