I think you do have to pay attention to those things because generally there's a reason (like with Alabama quarterbacks for example).

But you also have to be a good enough scout to know when those issues don't apply

There are a lot of teams that wish they hadn't rolled their eyes at yet another Jeff Tedford Call QB when Aaron Rodgers was available.

You're right about Florida State pass rushers, but a bust on the D-line won't set you back like a bust at the QB position.

I won't tell you my exact age, but i'm old enough to remember the Bradshaw, Staubach, Stabler era of pro football. Tell me a an exceptional NFL QB out of Ohio State, Alabama, or Penn State since 1980. Outside of Carson Palmer give a good QB out of USC since 1980. If you take away Joe Montana (1979 draft), Notre Dame hasn't had a solid QB in the NFL since Joe Theisman and he played with the Redskins from the mid 70's thru the mid 80's.

You just can't ignore things like that if you plan on drafting your next "Franchise QB", especially if you're willing to give up a boat load of draft choices to get him.

I still can't see NYJ taking a QB at #2, Darnold was billed highly and NYJ has been a dumpster fire since he's been there from a coaching perspective, with some knock it out the prospects available if I'm the NYJ I'm inclined to pick a stud (Sewell / Smith / Chase), or trade back and accumulate more picks inside the top 10-15 if a partner is available since they have a franchise capable yet to be proven QB on the roster with three years left at rookie pay. 

 

Stafford is a guaranteed elite QB with 4+ years left. You're improving the short term without sacrificing the long term.

Any trade up for a QB sacrifices your ability to surround him with elite talent (unless Fitterer is an exceptional drafter).
