After looking at Remmers protecting Mahomes, we owe Cam an apology

Yes but there is a flurry of interest over guys like Carr, Wentz and Darnold. Those are all potential suitors for Deshaun Watson. Why be late to the party and miss out on maximizing the value?

Because if you don't want to trade him in the first place, letting all the potential suitors get someone else doesn't exactly hurt your purpose.

I don't think they're gonna have any trouble maximizing his value. The teams with the type of trade e capital to go after Watson  aren't sniffing around Wentz and Darnold. Carr, maybe but that only takes one team out of the mix.

McNair is clearly a buffoon. The rumors of Watt wanting out to make this more complicated because now you are looking at a situation where your two leaders on offense and defense want to jump ship.

If I am the Texans, I get these deals done ASAP and field every offer. Right now the market is nuclear hot and dragging your feet is just likely to get you less and less on the open market for either of these guys.

I expect the Texans will drag this out until after the draft and then end up having to deal with whatever teams didn't address the QB position. That isn't a spot I would want to be in.

That's a very plausible scenario.

But that's the thing that they don't seem to be getting. Every single shred of any evidence indicates Watson wants to leave and badly. It's a franchise that let it's previous dipshit coach/GM trade away just about every thing of value in the draft. This is the opportunity to get the franchise back on track for rebuilding.

If they fug this up, they will be in the cellar of the NFL for a long, long time.

I don't have a whole lotta doubt that's gonna happen.

It's only a question of how they do it.

To be determined. Like I said, the more suitors you have, the more likely you are to get an LA Rams type offer and not a Carolina Panthers type offer. Bidding wars are never bad for trades.

There will be no shortage of suitors when the time comes. I don't blame the Texans a bit for first exhausting any and all efforts to keep him in Houston first. That's what I'd be doing too.

I agree, but until they fire Easterby it's hard for me to say they're "exhausting all efforts".

That should be Effort #1!

Again, that depends on how long you wait.

If Wentz, Darnold and Carr all get traded, those are teams that are now off the board due to trading away assets or having established QB positions. Let's say the rumor of Andrew Luck returning is true, that is another team off the board. If the draft happens, that is four more teams off the board that have established QB positions. So, again, that has lessened the amount of suitors to drive up the price. Not to mention you lose the ability to potentially cash in on one of the QB's in this draft class.

That doesn't mean they won't still get a haul for Watson, but it could very well mean that they didn't maximize the value of that haul. I am not advocating they make a trade tomorrow but by God I'd start taking bids for him and figure it out from there.

Once you start openly taking bids he's as good as gone. He knows he's won the staredown at that point. As long as you're trying to hang onto him you've got to put up the front of he isn't available, period.

I personally believe he has decided that he won't play there any longer(TBD if this is the case, obviously). In that scenario, winning the staredown isn't the optimal solution, getting the best situation for your franchise is.

fwiw remmers was mostly fine during the year. he wasn't a strength of the team or anything but he wasn't a swinging gate.

he was just massively exposed during the super bowl, and there was a combination of him not being able to handle what was happening and the panthers failing to adjust...anything...to help him.

then the right side of the line completely collapsed and that was that.

I recall Remmers getting beat pretty badly during the 2015 season too. Someone had 3 sacks against him in 1 game. I cant remember who it was now.

I think he gave up several sacks in a couple games that season.
