Dark horse QB option: Derek Carr?

The thing about getting a guy like Carr is that ideally it allows you to spend a couple of years looking for your future franchise quarterback.

Maybe a year or two down the road, you have more holes in the roster filled and you're in a better position to use draft capital to trade up for that guy you want.

If you don't like the choices in this year's draft or you don't think the choices you like are within reach, it's a reasonable idea.

Carr would be a MUCH better contract for us that TB5.  Nothing in there guaranteed assuming he comes over in trade.

If he comes here and lights it up, you've found a guy who can give you another 5-7 years.  Plenty of time for a SB run.  If he is terrible, you can cut him easily.

I was listening to the Lombardi podcast from a few days ago and apparently the sense around league circles is that the Raiders would be interested in moving Derek Carr and rolling with the cheaper option in Mariota.

After seeing what Stafford returned they could be even more interested in trading him. What do you think he’d be worth? Honestly I’m not a big fan and his contract is still pretty large. He’d be an upgrade so I figured it would at least be worthy dialogue.

I dunno man, check out the Chiefs game below.  Carr took his team down to take the lead with less than two minutes to go and the Raiders couldn't hang on.  He was definitely looking downfield first the whole game.  I know, it's just one game, but it's pretty representative.

He drove the Rai-duhs down for what appeared to be the winning score against the Dolphins with :19 left.  Then their defense gave the game away allowing an enormous completion with a defender hanging onto Fitzpatrick's face mask in the process.

Can't fault Carr because his defense can't hold a lead.

Seems this was a well timed thread.

Lombardi also said today that he doesn't think Watson is going anywhere. Sounds like the Texans are totally prepared to just let him sit if that's what it comes too and get into some sort of tug of war match. If this is true, will the Raiders still want to move Carr? IF they think they can get Watson, I could see us having a great chance to land Carr since we could offer them the highest pick which they could in turn flip to Houston.

If Stafford got a first I really think Carr will too. Stafford is better, but Carr is younger by a couple of years. This has Washington written all over it though. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Surrender 8 for Carr or give up at least one future first for Wilson/Fields/Lance? I think I prefer the latter, but wouldn't complain if they went with the former.

    • Cutting edge analysis below https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-50-2025-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-4-0 You gotta remember, Daniel Jeremiah talks to the scouts and GMs..... Notable highlights: #1 Abdul Carter (Edge) #2 Travis Hunter (WR/CB) #3 Ashton Jeanty (RB) #4 Mason Graham (DT) #5:  Jalon Walker (LB) #6 Tyler Warren (TE) #7  Coltson Loveland (TE) #15 Nick Emannwori (S) #22 Mykel Williams (Edge) #32 Mason Taylor (TE--3 TEs in round 1????) WR rankings (oh my!!  This is going to piss some folks off--I don't think a slot WR--Egbuka--should be in the middle of round 1, personally) #16 Matthew Golden (told ya this a month ago!!--you mocked me, some scoffed) #17  Emeka Egbuka (the sleeper we have not talked about enough!) #18  Tetairoa McMillan (according to the NFL Network Path to the Draft Crew-Ross, Brooks, Charles-the comments may have hurt his stock among GMs--I do think it might be a bit overblown, but hey, he raised the red flag--nobody else.  I am sure he will explain his meaning to satisfy GMs) #33 Luther Burden III (he has dropped quite a bit) Noteable Edges NOT in top 50, which means they could be there in the second:  Jack Sawyer, Princely. and my super sleeper pick who could be there in round 3--Josaiah Stewart, Michigan. MHS PREDICTIONS: It sure looks like #5 Jalon Walker Edge will be the pick---Mykel Williams dropped to #22. Most of the players we draft on days 1 and 2 will have a first name that starts with the letter J.
    • I feel like all the guys i think they're going to take will be gone. Graham and walker plus Carter who has no chance. If that's the case I really hope someone wants to jump the saints and we can trade back. I would want Green if he didn't have the accusations
    • I think with walker you have a pretty stable and decent floor.   With some of the others the floor is lower but yeah the ceiling is the roof.   We just cant risk that as a franchise at this point
