Stafford didn’t want to come to the Panthers

The 8 alone was too much for Stafford.

The report also said SF and Indy both balked at including this year's FRP. So two very competent front offices were not willing to part with the 12th nor the 21st picks, respectively.....

But we were willing to give up the 8th AND another asset beyond that. Scary.

I really hope Rhule and Fitterer can reel in Tepper, as this seems like a Tepper "I want what I want and I don't care about pricetags" kind of move.

Yay let’s go with Teddy again, I’m glad a lot of you like to keep watching the Panthers be mediocre or suck every year.

Stafford is going to be 33 on Sunday.  Why would he want to go to a team that is in the middle of a rebuild rather than one who was in the Super Bowl with a lot of its current roster, has a defense that can take over games, and is maybe a healthy QB away from being able to make a deep push NOW?

Who can blame anybody who is on the back end of their career, been in an organization associated with futility, and wants to win or chase a championship not wanting to go to a team who is rebuilding.....even if he thinks the rebuild is heading in the right direction?

There comes a point where the money is just a way to keep score. More of it isn't going to do anything to change your lifestyle. Personally, I wouldn't want anything to do with L.A. but depending on your preferences it's very easy to understand why someone would choose L.A. over Charlotte. They're very different places and honestly, after living in CO for 14 years and coming back to NC this past summer, the weather here fuging sucks. Hot as balls with sky high humidity all summer and way too many gloomy days in the winter. People who race about Charlotte weather haven't lived somewhere with actual good weather. Yeah, it's better than Buffalo, but there's a lot of other places with a lot better weather.

Agree with what you say about the money as a score counter, but what's all this talk about the weather??

Why assume that was a determining factor?  If a previous poster was correct that Stafford's wife preferred L.A., mightn't it have been for the night life, club scene, even restaurants (assuming they ever open up)?  Or maybe family?

I doubt annual rainfall, or temperature gradients, had anything to do with it.

In any case, whew that we dodged that deal.

If Stafford, at  his age, and minor accomplishments, earned that level of interest from us, then I expect us to be VERY aggressively going after Watson -- whose train I will very happily board.

Yes Rhule is the HC and all signs point to him having control to some degree. He still has people working under him that can be analyzed.

Rhule officially has final say on the roster but has said that he isn't interested in that.

He's not gonna be taking part in the personnel acquisition process outside of talking to Scott Fitterer about what they want.

That was what I understood, I am just waiting for actual confirmation through actions. My response was more tuned to the other poster that doesn't understand you can evaluate more than just the guy in charge.

Please elaborate then on how giving up the #8 overall pick + another asset (draft pick or player) for a 33-year old, non-mobile, banged up QB makes us a long-term contender.

My comment was on overpaying for Stafford, which, if we would've given what was reported...would have been an extreme overpay.

If you want to debate that, then your knowledge of how front offices and teams are built is below a Madden Franchise Mode-level of understanding.

Is Russell Wilson on the back end of his career?
