Because Cam owned the locker room, even if he couldn't play anymore. A new coach can't come in and have a player running the place. Even on a good team like the Packers, a diva can create massive resistance. On a losing team, like we were/are that rift is massive.

Cam had to go, much like Smitty had to go to give Cam the leadership mantle.

Yeah but 60% of that locker room was gone. Also, Cam didn't go to a place where he owned the locker room when he left. He went to the place where the locker room is completely controlled by a coach.

And, they actually loved Cam. He's just doesn't have "it" anymore.

I think Tepper underestimated the level of Hurney’s stupidity. He wasn’t here for the first run so he hadn’t seen how so many of these deals had actually ended up.

Tepper has fully admitted that he basically knew next to nothing about football and being an owner in the NFL. He focused initially on the business side of the organization because that he knows very well and has had to learn the football side. In that regard, I think he kept Hurney around purely out of ignorance.

Eh he didn’t outplay Cam. Cam accounted for more TDs in less games even with catching Covid and Byrd as his #1 WR. Had he had DJ, Robby, and Curtis Samuel, numbers would have even been close.

He had Moore, Samuel, McCaffrey and Olsen.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
