I would guess something like converting base salary into unguaranteed incentive money he has a low chance of earning (e.g. bonuses for a super bowl victory or 1st team all pro selection). Or they could tack on a low cost voidable dummy year that spreads the cap hit over 2 years. But I think it makes sense for both sides. I don't think they have an heir apparent on the roster and there are too many teams in the qb market with more ammunition for them to get in a bidding war. But you can't keep him at a $41 million cap hit.

      That’s a book of the great life that the Panthers have had. So great to look back on the great players and seasons that we have had. But I think the book could have been twice the size. We have had a good 30 years, up and down the standings. i know we are in a bad spot right now, but hopefully before long we will be climbing back towards that Super Bowl championship

      LmAO ..it does not make any sense whatsoever why a team that is currently 2-0 would  trade their backup Qb to a team that is 0-2 & in the same NFC conference ? & what is Seattle going to do if Geno Smith is injured ? wouldn't a team that is  currently 2-0 & is quiet  possibly going to the playoffs  want a decent plan B that already knows how to operate their system & has some form of chemistry with their players  , like I said before this is the NFL &teams especially ones like Seattle  are NOT going to trade their backup Qb 2 games into the regular season...just saying

      Yeah, I can see that happening, but my only thing is, whoever he goes to, it's going to be a bad team. Not a whole lot of difference between us and say Denver, Jax, the Giants or the Colts. Of course, we're probably worse, but not by that much. Manning would have to pick his poison.
