JStew for a Good Young QB? Hells to the Yes.

Cleveland needs a RB more than anyone, and the most we could get would be a second.

And since when is Jonathan Stewart injury-prone? Because John Fox holds him out of practice? How many games has Stewart missed?

Any trainer on any NFL staff would know he has a weak/sore achilles that could hobble him or even shorten his career. RB's like him are almost a dime a dozen. I think he has zero trade value.

I like J Stew, but I tend to agree. I think he has minimal trade value at this point. I know Zod would never suggest it, but DeAngelo Williams would be much bigger trade bait for us.

Yes he would but no way I trade Williams. He is my pick for best back in the league. The guy is a force. I wouldn't even consider it unless someone offers up multiple top picks plus players but that aint' gonna happen.

Now wait a minute! Dwill ain't for sale.

If we trade DWill and Stew becomes the every down back, I have the stinking feeling he'd break down quickly. Let someone else find out.

NOBODY is gonna trade us a QB for a RB or WR. And if they did, I wouldnt want them anyway because they more than likely suck. Why we always want to take shortcuts to try to get success? We're gonna have to do like all the other franchises and endure a shitty season to get a top draft pick to DRAFT A QB.

Or maybe get lucky with a later pick that turns into a great quarterback. Our problem is that we don't use enough picks until we find one. If you drill enough wells you eventually hit the big one. We have surely wasted enough picks to put a few on a quarterback. Sure first rounders are the best choice but we could surely find a good one in the second this year. Plus Hurney could find a first rounder if he wanted to. Besides this season is shaping up as bad enough.

Like I said in my thread on this same matter, look at the 32 teams in the NFL. Only THREE have two "superstar" RBs on their roster: the Panthers, the Saints, and the Cowboys. Those last two you can actually argue! That means there are 29 teams out there with one amazing RB, and a #2 to relieve the starter when needed. Let's look at the backs most people consider being Top 5, minus the Panthers:

1. Minnesota - Peterson (Chester Taylor #2). Is J-Stew better than Taylor? Hell yes.

2. Jacksonville - Jones-Drew (doesn't even HAVE a #2)

3. Atlanta - Turner (Snelling/Norwood #2s). Is J-Stew better than they are? By leaps and bounds.

4. Tennessee - Johnson (White #2) Laughable comparison.

5. St. Louis - Jackson (Darby #2) Who?

What the Panthers need is a WR and a QB. In another thread I commented in, I listed the current Top 10 statistical RBs, their teams, and IF THEY HAD a great WR core. The teams that did have a Top 10 back and solid WRs have a winning record. The teams that had the back but no WR had a losing record.

The Panthers can do just fine with DeAngelo as the primary back and someone like Goodson backing him up. And you ask, what happens if D-Lo gets hurt? We suffer. Just like those 29 teams would if their main back went down. Injuries happen. This team can't win on their run game alone. We need help. We need to rebuild, trade, sign a FA, etc.

What we don't have is a #1 draft pick. We'd even settle for two #2 picks. What we do have is an amazing running back that could bring us something great in return. We all love J-Stew, but we don't NEED him. What we do NEED is another WR and a better QB.

What team will give us a 1st round pick for JStew ?

Teams that possibly need a RB:

Seattle, Detroit, Cleveland, Chiefs ( All 4 will have early first round picks, doubt they will take Stewart for the pick though). Just sayin'

Dan Morgan was on the radio this morning and was asked the same question...he agreed that we should trade Stewart or even Smith for a decent QB

he even said Vick would be a good fit

You're incorrect. He said he would go after Vick, yes, But he said he would not get rid of Stew. I heard it today too. He said that was the core of the team.

I say don't break up a good thing.

Yes, we need to change what we have at the QB position, but I wouldn't agree with trading Stewart to do it. Let's keep our running game the top-tier juggernaut that it is without compromising it for a potential improvement elsewhere.

Unless a deal is done with a team that is DESPARATE for a RB, I just don't think Stewart will bring more than a 2nd rounder in the draft, and that depends on the team we deal with. He'd probably bring a 3rd rounder, or maybe a 3rd rounder plus a lower pick. The Jets just lost Leon Washington last week, they may be in such a desparate situation to offer a first round pick, but other than them, I just don't see that happening. No way anyone trades a promising QB straight up for Stewart.

There should be quite a few QB prospects in the upcoming draft. Also, Vick (among others) will no doubt be available after this year. I don't know how folks feel about that, but I offer it up anyways. Many of the league pundits predicted he'd be signed by us before the annoucement he signed with the Eagles, which surprised many people. But we do appear to have several RBs who have promise. D-Will is untouchable, he stays. But the others, if good deals can be made to address other concerns, by all means, make those deals.

...but he still hasnt missed a game or been hobbled in a game because of this "sore" achilles? How many 230lb RB who run a 4.4 are out there? If we were dangling him, someone would bite, but not for a franchise QB. That would be foolish, like trading a shutdown corner for a running back.

true...of course this means that we would have to have an HC and a GM who would actually do this (draft one that is).

I still haven't decided who I like better, JStew or DeAngelo... I know that might sound crazy at this point but JStew has both speed and power. The only concern I have about JStew at the moment is that he appears to be injury prone.

I would trade either one for the right QB, but I don't see this happening unless Goodson proves he can contribute like a full-fledged member of double trouble.
