Former Panther S Deon Grant on Jake: He's the "biggest disappointment" in the NFL

That's not to say that people here don't know what they're talking about. There is a slew that definitely do. It's just that when you start to attack an actual NFL player's credibility when it comes to him expressing his views on who has performed poorly this season, that's when it gets a little over the top.

The Deon Grant bashing is hysterical. Let me get this straight: The guy has played in the NFL for the entire decade and yet apparently, he knows nothing about the NFL. Oh, but do you know who DOES know a lot about the NFL and what makes a good quarterback? Random guys on an Internet forum with names like mmmbeans and Pantherclaw, that's who!

I mean, who needs the opinion of a veteran safety that played with Jake that's in his ninth year in the league when you have guys like anonymous message board poster mmmbeans to tell you how good he REALLY is?

You really think that most football players are that bright. Even after a decade of playing guys like Larry Johnson for example still make stupid decisions. An 85 IQ for example doesn't improve over time. Just because he played a decade doesn't make him any smarter or a better judge of talent. How many professional scouts who are paid to pick talent are still poor at it. While I can't argue that random posters on an internet site are more knowledgeable than players like Grant, I can't say they are less knowledgeable either. If we were talking about how to play safety he wins hands down, but as a talent evaluator what makes you think he knows anything or may not have sour grapes or some other reason to bash the Panthers and Jake like Johnson and Buckner do. It reminds me of actors and celebrities who get to write advice columns or discuss politics because of their celebrity status. It hardly qualifies as experts on anything. Similarly many if not most football players are poor judges of their own ability let alone their colleagues.

How can any undrafted player ever be considered to be the biggest disappointment in the first place? If Jake was a 1st round pick and was making money like David Carr was making in Houston, and had the same expectations for success, then I could understand it, but nobody was touting Jake Delhomme as one of the best QB's in the league this year, or any other year, and he's not anywhere close to being the highest paid QB even with the new contract. In fact, he's making about the same amount this year that he would have made without the new deal.

John Fox.....is that you?

Oh yeah...and if it is.....come closer so I can punch you in the ******* mouth!

Safeties make a living off beating the talent ability of quarterbacks. I think they're just a wee bit more qualified to talk about whether a quarterback is playing at a high level than Sean Penn or Stephen Baldwin are when it comes to talking about politics, don't you agree?

So how many of the experts out there were talking about Delhomme in the same breath as Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Tom Brady? In order to be a huge disappointment, you have to have high expectations first. IMO, one would have to be retarded to not understand that.
No one living in reality would think Jake is anywhere near the level of Brady, Manning, or Brees. But one doesn't have to be to be a huge disappointment. Again, with all the talent surrounding him, putting up a 61.7 rating (29th in the league) and leading the NFL in INTs would constitute a drop off of over 20 points from his career average. That's over a 25% drop in production from his career norms. Nobody's expecting him to be the best QB in the league, but to be statistically either the worst or one of the 3 or 4 worst? Yeah, that's a huge disappointment considering where he has been.

No. They get paid big bucks to run after a WR and hit him very hard. That doesn't take that much intelligence as much as athleticism and aggressiveness. Secondly how do you know that his opinion is unbiased and objective rather than tainted with personal feelings or bitterness about getting cut for example. Do you really think that most players discuss things on an intellectual versus an emotional level..

Why in the world would he be bitter towards Jake for being cut? Does Jake make personnel decisions?

I don't know if he is pissed or not just raising the issue that players have emotional feelings about lots of other players which colors what they say or believe. My point is that he is no more credible as a source because he played here years ago or should carry any weight with anyone. My point is he isn't bright, isn't necessarily a judge of talent and may have said it for a number of reasons. Just like I disagree with a hall of famer like Deon Sanders for example on a lot of what he says. Why? Because he is an idiot who can't string 3 sentences together. But he was a hell of a football player. Doesn't mean he is a good judge of talent or commentator.
