Lavar says Melo is not happy

Less concerned about the turnovers--it's the NBA, and with a fast paced style like Lamelo plays, you can live with some TOs that come from being aggressive and pushing the ball.  Where I think Borrego and the staff are concerned is the defense.  They feel it's bad enough that the trade off between a better offense with Lamelo on the floor isn't worth the porous defense. I don't have the on/off +/- and other advanced stats to back it up, but that's what they eye test says.

It's what I was concerned about before the draft. I was saying Lamelo couldn't be a star if he didn't improve his defense because it would cancel out his offense. For what it's worth, I've been willing to eat crow on my Lamelo stance, because his offense has been better than I expected even with inconsistency with his shooting. And he's doing much better at such a young age than I expected. He's got a lot of time to improve on all aspects of his game.

Well...our defense as an entire team has been horrid the last few games

I think that Lavar is bullshitting about this. Lamelo has come in as a rookie being very humbled with the mentality of wanting to learn and earn his way into a starter. You can tell that all of his teammates love him and are behind him. I don’t care that Ball isn’t starting right now, but he should be getting a lot more minutes. Same with Miles Bridges. Time to fired James Borrego after this season.

Yes bridges and ball should both be getting more time on the court

not ready to fire coach after a dozen games

We need to win some games

I would think that professional basketball coaches don't pay any mind to angry parents. That's for YMCA coaches.

Unfortunately, this angry parent has a big platform. He also is echoing what many others (both fans and media) are saying at this point. If you draft this kid and plan to fug around like this, you are inviting a poo storm. Not sure wtf Borrego is thinking.

I have watched every game this season, honestly after the back to back triple dub games he should have been starting from there. There is a thought that graham and rozier are only getting ridiculous minutes to increase trade value.  The problem is graham has been absolute trash all season outside of 2 games and now rozier is starting to slump but both are still logging almost 40 minutes. Lamelo has the same stats and only playing half the minutes as graham. Considering that its still a dangerous line borrego is walking and some serious changes need to made to the lineup sooner than later.

No, thats when he initially invested in the team. He took full control in 2010.

Air Dolt took full control of all basketball operations when he came on in June of 2006.

"As part of the deal, Jordan took full control over the basketball side of the operation, with the title "Managing Member of Basketball Operations"."

https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/chicago-bulls/photos-michael-jordan-through-years

"On June 15, 2006, Jordan announced he had bought a minority stake of the Charlotte Bobcats. As part of the deal, Jordan was named Managing Member of Basketball Operations and given full control over the basketball side of the team operation."

Lamelo's defense was a concern before the draft and is a concern now.

These are also the same fans that think dumb poo like CMC is a slot WR, NY makes good BBQ, QAnon is real, and that Burger King makes good food.

This is only a valid argument if Graham’s defense is good, which it isn’t.

Lamelo has 3 double doubles and 1 triple double, Graham has just 2 double doubles. Lamelo does that in 10 minutes less per game sharing floor time with the Martin twins while Graham gets the bulk of his minutes with Hayward. Lamelo scores more per 40, rebounds more per 40, assists more per 40. Lamelo 6.3% higher FG%. Devontae 2.4% better from 3. In PER Lamelo is above league average at 16.08 Graham is well below league average at just 12.6. Even last year, which may be the best year he will ever have, Graham was only a 15.82 PER.

And yet, Lamelo gets 10 minutes less per game. There’s nothing to argue at this point, it’s clear as day. Borrego had a real easy opportunity to move Lamelo into the starting lineup and nobody would have faulted him, even Graham. Graham plays like crap all season, Lamelo becomes youngest in history with a triple double, easy move into the starting lineup and you can stick by your “earning it” philosophy and everybody’s happy and you’ve made the right decision.

Instead, he botched it. He cut Lamelo’s minutes, and I think he may be starting to lose some of the young guys now because they see it doesn’t matter what they do or how shitty the guy is in front of them, they are trapped in whatever hole the coach has put them in.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
