Time to get a DVR

Well Christmahanukkwaanzicafestivus is coming up, and I've decided my big gift to myself this year is HDTV and a DVR.

I could beat my face against the wall reading conflicting product reviews, and consumer guides, but I'd rather hear from people who actually own these devices. So which DVR system should I get? TiVo, the cable company's, or does anyone have this Moxi thing I keep hearing about?

I have had the DVR service from Time Warner and now Direct TV. Liked them both, very conveinent, and no issues other than the monthy charge of I think $5 or $10 per month.

Have DirectTV...and HDDVR

But usually your supplier's HDDVR receiver should be sufficient. TIVO being a 3rd party...I just don't know. Check on internet connectivity to allow DVR setups between the two. Big plus.

Tivo is absolutely the best DVR system on the market. But it has a monthly charge on top of the cable/satellite service. My parents have it, and it's ******* sweet.

I have a Cable DVR and it's not bad. Nothing special. If I could get AT&T U-Verse, I'd switch. I contemplate daily switching to DirectTV, but I am not thrilled with their DVR offering. Very unresponsive and not very user friendly.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I might want a multi-room hookup. Does that change things?

If there is a huge jump in price I'll just hook up the DVR in my room, as my flat screen is the only HDTV in the house.
