Also, on top of that... NC lost over 15,000 students.  They don’t know whereabouts of these students or if they are ok or not.

Even worse,

There are articles about children's mothers walking around in the background with nothing but a towel on their head, men drinking beer shirtless in camera focus at 9am, and many siblings cussing out teachers for no real reason.

My wife was helping my son get on zoom like 2 months ago and another kid mom was nude trying to get her daughter zoom to work... it was working and everyone could see her titties dangling in the camera for like 2 minutes until teacher ended the class.

It’s tough on everyone. My wife is a teacher. It’s really hard on these kids especially the ones who have been dealt a tough hand. We need to get back to in school learning when it’s safe. It’s not safe right now. It’s just the way it has to be.

The failure is the result of a pandemic.  The failure is not due to remote learning, it's due to the pandemic.

That's like saying the restaurant industry is a failure, the movie theater business, travel & tourism....

True dat

Painfully obvious nobody was prepared to deal with anything like this

Rants of a teacher ahead, but the charts in the OP aren't telling much of the story if we're only looking at grades.  On top of that, let's also be real...a lot of grades are meaningless and are more about compliance than actual standards mastery.  My school for instance, has weirdly (to us as well) seen increases in some testing data this year. Some students grades have gone up. And obviously, some kids are completely MIA.

Remote learning was always impossible, but shined light on and amplified the issues that were already present.  Lack of funding, lack of resources, half-assing 100 things instead of making the important stuff great, lack of parents giving a poo, etc.  At least in my district, the last time teachers were surveyed or our opinions were asked for was back in September.  Decisions have been made by the BOE and county admin that don't make a bit of sense in a classroom setting.  Teachers obviously aren't innocent here either, as I've seen a couple from my team that are checked out.

It wouldn't solve all of the issues, but the "main" issue in the OP concerning grades could've easily been better dealt with if parents took 5 minutes to check PowerSchool. Instead, they believe their kid, don't pay attention to messages from the teachers or progress reports, and then are shocked to find out their kid failed not because of their abilities, but their irresponsibility and lack of turning in assignments. Some faults on districts here as well.  Instead of making a cool viral rap video about wearing a mask...make a 2 minute tutorial showing parents how to check grades. Schools make it damn near impossible to fail anything in the regular setting.  During remote learning? To fail currently, you literally don't show up for 5-8 weeks, never turn in an assignment (that don't have due dates), and essentially avoid all contact from teachers/admin/counselors/resource officers.

How much do you think the situation you're dealing with varies from one county to another, given each has their own BOE, and the BOE has their own agenda?

Completely dependent on the BOE and why there's so much variance based on your district right now.  I have some neighboring counties that are already remote all year, some that have been Plan A already, it's all just a grab bag depending on your BOE.  And from that, the BOE members themselves took a drastic turn following elections.  Once many of them were re-elected, a few did complete 180s on previous stances.  It's never been about the kids, because frankly county decision makers and BOE's don't know dick about the kids or what schools are actually like.

It seems like every other day on the local news in my area, parents are complaining about remote learning. The majority of the complaints are nonsensical. They usually turn into trying to guilt the teachers to basically risk their lives for in-person learning with no plan in sight of when teachers and staff will be vaccinated. It just seems like most school districts are in a rush to bring everyone back in-person because they think the teachers are "getting off easy" with remote learning when that's not the case at all.

Yes, there are some slack teachers out there, but the majority of teachers are actually working hard and trying to make a difference in these students lives. My boyfriend, who is a teacher, isn't a fan of remote learning, but he tries his best to make sure his students are actually learning.

Hopefully, everyone can be vaccinated as soon as possible and things can get back to normal.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
