Carolina Panthers Round 2 Prospect - Trevon Moehrig - S - TCU

From what I have read on Fitts , he likes to trade back . I think  Rhule wanted to in the last draft .  Unless the QB is there at #8 we trade back . It could also be a QB some other team is willing to move up and give us their 1st and either a 2nd or 3rd pick we could also make a trade .  I would consider their 1st and maybe a player for our 8th .  We are not close to a superbowl yet so lets build our core now . We still might get that QB in a later round.

I hate to tell you, but non-pass rushing LBs just aren't premium positions in today's NFL. We had a terrible D with Luke his last year. The Seahawks have had a terrible D for the past few years with Wagner. They're quickly becoming the FB of the defense. We're in the process of watching the modern NFL LB basically become what used to be called a strong safety.

Because ILBs are becoming obsolete like FBs?  I get where you are going but are missing on your comparisons. Yes, you still need strong inside presence even if they aren't rushing the passer most downs. You make it sound like the NFL will eventually get to dime as the standard formation going forward.  Even though nickle is run a ton now, LBs still serve their roles, even ILBs.

Everything is cyclical, so if it gets to the point that teams load up the field with DBs and send pass rushing OLBs most downs, the old fashion rushing attack will have a resurgence in the NFL.  As we all know, most DBs suck at tackling and guys like Derrick Henry will routinely put up monster stats.

Who are these other guys "like Derrick Henry"? Dude's a freak even in a league full of freaks.

We were in almost every game we played. What we REALLY need, is someone who will put the football in the end zone. We settled for FG attempts WAY too much.
1. QB

2. OL

3. OL

4. TE

5. WR (to replace Samuel’s production that CMC doesn’t pick up)

6 & 7. Situational defensive players

Something like this, if we were able to get good value, would land us in a serious run for the playoffs. Assuming we re-sign Moton.

We were atrocious defensively on third down. We absolutely need secondary help.

Big, between the tackles RBs; Henry was just an example.  The type of RBs that the passing game is supposedly making extinct now...like said FBs.  Point being without name dropping, once things go too far in one direction, teams make adjustments to counter it.  So no, ILBs will not go the way of the fullback, now or in the future. Again, give it a few years to come full circle, but the bruising RBs and ILBs will reassert their importance in this League.

I think it's wishful thinking. Big bruising RBs aren't going to completely go away, but RBs are more and more becoming jack of all trades like CMC and Kamara and not just runners. The league wants high flying high scoring offenses and they keep tweaking the rules to get it. The game is just going to get more and more pass happy because that's what the casual viewers want to watch.

I am looking into some options the Carolina Panthers may have available for their round 2 selection and one guy that I keep taking note of is Trevon Moehrig.

Trevon is one of those guys that is a projected late first round / early second round picks.

Obviously, the Panthers need real help at safety and Trevon would likely be a day 1 starter. He would be an instant and substantial upgrade to Tre Boston or whoever is slated as the current starter along with Tre.

Trevon Moehrig - S - TCU

6'2 , 208lbs

I think this will depend on how well we do in FA.  If we can address some of the O-line issues in FA than this is a possibility but Rhule has already stated we would address the offense.  Whether we go 100% offense in the draft IDK but I expect to see mostly offense in the draft.

Would be pretty awesome to have a pair of badass safeties, but I’d probably want to look at Centers and Guards ASAP after taking out QB. Or especially LT if one happens to be available at that point.  I’d prefer our next two picks after QB to be OL.  Then S, CB or MLB

We should be able to land a decent LT at 40, but if not, shoring up the secondary would be my hope. Unless there's a center available for a steal. There's usually plenty of starting caliber guards available in rounds 3-4 or via FA cheap.

    Carolina Panthers
    Josh Myers

    IOL, Ohio State

Safety I see as a luxury pick after the offense is high octane.

FUG YES! please let it role out this way.

curious, was it just a 3 round draft?
