If we come out of this draft without a ILB, I'll be dumbfounded.  Like it took years for DJ Moore to fill Smitty's void, let's not take several years to 'attempt' to replace Luke.

Got to get the two field generals out of this draft QB and ILB, it's a must.  The Tahir Whitehead's of the NFL as a patchwork replacement isn't going to work long term.  Heck, it didn't even work ONE year.

Yeah, let's continue the time honored Panthers' tradition of throwing premium picks at non-premium positions. Carter is plenty serviceable. We have a lot worse problems.

I'm doing another mock. Zack Wilson is on the board at 8th, and the Colts are on the phone offering their 1st and 2nd picks. What would you do?

No.  That would leave Trask as the best option when we pick, possibly Jones is still available, but either of those two I'm iffy with taking.

Because outside of Chinn, our LB play was great.  Luke was non-premium, lol.  Let's keep doing the Panther's tradition of throwing JAGs into critical roles.

Dont get me wrong,  Trevon is a STUD.

But there is going to be some dam good value at OL and CB in rd 2.

So much is going to depend on what we do in free agency. It's possible we improve at S, CB, OL, MLB, etc. before that draft ever rolls around.

It's going to be an extremely interesting to see what direction we go in free agency with this new front office. I think it might be much more interesting than what we do in the draft.

Would be pretty awesome to have a pair of badass safeties, but I’d probably want to look at Centers and Guards ASAP after taking out QB. Or especially LT if one happens to be available at that point.  I’d prefer our next two picks after QB to be OL.  Then S, CB or MLB

Yeah, I do not want a S at 39. If that was the one piece we needed, sure but it isn’t. OL and CB would have a much higher impact than replacing Boston or Burris. This year there look to be a plethora of OL/CBs so if we go QB at 8, it should be OL/CB day 2 and that would right in the strength of the draft.

I hate to tell you, but non-pass rushing LBs just aren't premium positions in today's NFL. We had a terrible D with Luke his last year. The Seahawks have had a terrible D for the past few years with Wagner. They're quickly becoming the FB of the defense. We're in the process of watching the modern NFL LB basically become what used to be called a strong safety.

I keep getting poo every time I bring this up, but I don’t see safety as a need for NEXT season. Chinn should move back to safety full time once we find a competent Lb to pair with Shaq. No question Boston and Burris could be upgraded, but next season it does not make sense to let go of Boston because of the cap hit. Chinn is an upcoming star, and between Boston/Burris one should be a “decent” starter and “decent” backup for the position.

We literally have no starting O line (only Paradis is under contract), we need another starter to pair with Brown, 1 maybe 2 LB’s, and another CB (no one currently to pair with Jackson who is on his last year and can’t stay healthy a full season). With that being said, I see 6 positions I would value ahead of safety with our second pick. I wouldn’t be upset if we didn’t draft a safety at all with all the holes we have to fill.
