RB isn't an immediate concern with an elite talent like McCaffery on the roster. With him out, Davis played very well while also getting good reps from Bonnafon, Samuel and Rodney Smith too, but part of building a consistent playoff roster is hitting on depth pieces too. Only McCaffery is currently locked in to return with Davis being a free agent and there being no dead cap associated with the final year on Bonnafon or Smith's contracts. Hill's skill set is of particular interest in this group

Hill has good vision and can be productive as shown by leading the SEC in rushing 2 years ago. The problems with Hill are concerning. He dances too much before hitting the hole. The bigger issue is he has personality red flags. Frankly, he's a head case. Though he denied it, he was permanently suspended from the team after the Kentucky game for going off on his team and coaching staff at halftime. Apparently frustrated over production and touches, he burned his bridges and was gone. I would not draft Hill

That's the position group I'm looking the closest at as well.

Alex Leatherwood, Liam Eichenberg, Dillon Radunz and Adrian Ealy(as a RT) would be ideal to coach at OTs.

Creed Humphrey, Landon Dickerson and Drake Jackson for centers.

Trey Smith, Deonte Brown, Robert Jones, Alaric Jackson (potential swing tackle as well) for the guards.

I couple of weeks ago someone posted a bio on Creed Humphrey and I was sold.  This guy is super smart and will be a huge addition to our O-line.  If he's on our team I am going to tell you now. Rhule is going to fall in love with him.

Too high for us at 8 but maybe trade down and get him in the latter portion of round one or at 40 in round two.

Good thread, thanks for creating.

I too am most excited about our coaches seeing these offensive linemen up close. One of the few positions groups you can find immediate depth at.

yes, and those OL drills expose weaknesses like no other drill in football.

HOWEVER....Remember Norwell was not good in these drills, but was good functioning as a member of a unit.  So it is part of the process--not all of it.

SIDESTORY:  At an OTA, my sons were getting autographs and Norwell was right beside us, talking to an obnoxious Ebay scavenger.  They man wanted a picture after getting his autograph, and Norwell let him.  The man said, "Why have I not ever seen you smile?"  Norwell said, "I haven't either."

He needs to have a good week. He's been out of sight and out of mind.

Reminds me a lot of Jordan Love last year.  Lots of intrigue surrounding him, but teams aren't lining up to be grab him either.  It's probably going to be the same scenario where he's taking to be the #2 guy and groomed to eventually be the #1 guy a few years later.  In other words, a few select teams looking for a very specific role will end up drafting him.  We need more immediate help...not necessarily this coming season, but definitely in 2022.

Yeah Newman does need to have a good week after opting out. At the end of the day you can’t replicate live game snaps so it’ll be interesting to see how he does.

Newman doesn’t lack athletic ability and has a nice quick release with good touch on his passes. He’s shown the ability to hang in the pocket and deliver some good balls into tight windows. Newman’s footwork is so reminiscent of Cam’s when taking snaps from shotgun.

He’s definitely the most intriguing QB prospect at the Senior Bowl though IMO and I’m glad the Panthers are going to get a good look at him

Me too.  I would take him in the second round and try to get Scott back on a cheap deal and draft a T in the third round---It would not hurt my feelings if the first 3 picks were QB, T, C.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to Humphrey in the 2nd round if he fell to us.  I'm looking for a LT there, but if the value isn't there for a LT and Humphrey is still on the board...the choice would be obvious.  I definitely want a center this draft, however I am targeting one in the middle rounds.

This is what I read about him.

The full dream list.

Creed Humphrey, C/OG, Oklahoma: 6-foot-5, 315 lbs

USATSI_14247432.jpg

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Humphrey is “country strong” and sets the tone up front as the leader of Oklahoma’s offensive line. Strength, footwork, strong hands, leverage – you name it he’s got it. In 2019, he graded out as the seventh-best offensive lineman in the country according to PFF.

Humphrey is not only a physical force, he is an extremely intelligent player as well. He has been captain of the offensive line his last three years at Oklahoma, calls out blitzes and diagnoses defensive schemes pre-snap on a regular basis.

As a matter of fact, some scouts were concerned about former Sooner Kyler Murray’s pre-snap abilities because Humphrey would call out everything for him pre-snap. Another plus to Humphrey’s game is that he can play at either guard position as well, which would help the Panthers tremendously as they look to sure up their shaky interior line.

Ian Thomas has potential but he is also strongest attacking the seams and isn't Bridgewater's strength nor is it something the offensive scheme likes to do. In fact TE seems forgotten in our offense but improving the position can be a big help in the red zone. Hunter Long is the highest rated TE at the Senior Bowl but he's working with Miami. Of the ones the Panthers are working with, I've started looking into Tre' McKitty lately and I like him as he has a ton of athleticism and is a decent blocker too. Noah Gray's skillset also looks like a good fit in our offense.

I'm most interested to see who we'll have on the OL and in the secondary. I think those two units will be areas of major focus this off-season.

And TE and LB, we need some late round/UDFA magic to hit 2 out of the 4. Good thing is CB and LB have good odds of that happening.

I still can not believe the rumored 15 teams turned down this chance at personal scouting during convid BS.

Along with RHule being a fresh college and this game, it should give a the panthers a rare advantage.  Fritter should be legit with his college focus too, just got to nail the draft.

I was hoping we'd have Hunter Long. Dude can play. Not a jaw dropping athlete, but he's just a good football player. Runs great routes and catches anything near him.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
