Evidently there are people still mourning the departure of Gettleman lol.

The departure of Gettleman was a mistake. The return of Hurney was a disaster.

Had we moved on to someone competent, that would have been okay. But given that we had an owner who wasn't competent, that wasn't going to happen.

Now, thankfully, it looks like we finally have, but I think all of us could have done without wasting the last four years.

Or if you look at that you see that maybe a particular GM was really bad at assembling an entire roster. Franchise QBs are great, but it takes a team to win it all.

This.

At the end of the day football is still a team sport, doesn't matter how good your QB is, he still needs a capable O line to protect him, teammates to run w/the ball/catch it and a stout defense to prevent opponents from scoring.

The next coming of Dan Marino won't help this team without a decent supporting cast.

Something interesting to note - my sister and brother in law live in Seattle.  He is a huge Hawks fan.  While they have been great the last decade, his one complaint is that the teams O-line is always terrible.  They don’t invest in the o-line, yet win consistently.  Amazing what coaching can do.

They also spend a lot of time with their receivers practicing what to do when a play breaks down. All that miracle passing doesn't just happen. Once or twice, call it a miracle. This is the result of constant practice.

I sensed the sarcasm, and definitely am not a Hurney apologist. Just reminding everyone that I don’t remember anyone mourning the departure of Gettlemagic either.

It took a couple drafts and no more playoffs before we missed him a little.

Yeah, the reason was Jerry Richardson.

Gettleman being fired didn't have anything to do with win-loss records. He presided over the most successful stretch in team history to date. But then Jerry gave us back the gift of Marty Hurney and...ugh.

Regardless, here's hoping the best is yet to come.

He also whiffed on a buttload of draft picks and contributed to some of the problems he was supposed to fix(better draft picks, better free agent signings, smarter contracts). In the end....he was doing the same poo Marty got fired for doing.

We were winning.

That's all I really care about.

Don’t equate bad drafting results with not investing. Seattle in the last 5 drafts has invested 1 first, 2 seconds, 2 3rds, 1 4th, 2 5ths and 2 6th. That includes the trade for Duane Brown. No idea what they’ve done FA wise, but they’ve spent 2 draft picks a year, basically 1 first to third and 1 fourth to sixth. Brown, Pocic and Lewis have at least become starters. Ifedi started for the Bears but their investments exceeded their results.

In the past 5 drafts we’ve spent 2 seconds and 1 6th on OL. The last 3 drafts have been criminal because pre-Hurney we at least drafted Turner, Norwell (UD), Williams and Moton in 4 years and that worked out pre-injury. We haven’t added a starting OL in the draft since 2017 with Moton.

And we started losing immediately with the roster that he built. He also shares about half the blame for the decline of Cam Newton, having never adequately protected him by making smart free agent signings.

He was an awful GM. Atrocious. He never presided over a back to back winning season, so whatever "success" can be attributed to him is fleeting, at best.

We were winning in 2017. The losing started in 2018, and that's no more a roster that he built than 2015 was a roster that Marty built.

Bottom Line: He presided over the most successful period in this team's history, and when he was gone Marty took us right back into the toilet.

What would have happened if he'd stayed is all speculation. What happened when he was here is not.

You can continue to worship at the altar of the worst current GM in the NFL, but those of us that have any sense are pretty glad he and Hurney are gone.

So we’ve been in contention maybe 2 years with grossly half of our picks being in the top 10 while the Seahawks have had continued success year in and year out despite not having any top 10 picks.

Grossly half our picks in the top 10 and we've never had back to back winning seasons.
