Carolina Panthers to hire Scott Fitterer as GM

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I'm just happy it's over.  We can now move onto scouting talent and figuring out our draft board.

Hopefully, we make some solid and smart free agent moves.

I don't know how any of you can judge a man by your opinion of where they stood in the pecking order of the interviews.

I was pulling for Peters mostly because his write-up (thanks Mr. Scot) but truthfully have no clue as to who was best for us.

Give the man a chance before you nail him to the cross.

I was thinking about it and some stuff that was said since this hire, just generally thinking and analyzing. Someone claimed we had settled in this hire and that reminded me of Berry and we missed signing him because Tepper made the mistake of keeping Hurney another year.

The more I think about it the more it seems logical to use Berry as a measuring stick, we wanted him but couldn't hire him as a GM because a tumor was currently occupying that spot. So how does Berry stack up to Fritters in your minds?

Berry is still an incomplete to me because he's only had this one season.

Yes, this season's results have been great, but so was Jon Gruden's first season in Tampa. You saw what happened after that, though.

And yeah, it's fair to note that the Browns had several years of sucking to build with.

Absolutely incomplete and imperfect but if you had both options, which would you want based on their credentials and body of work?

There isn't a perfect comparison and it changes nothing, just if you have Berry as thr better option then settling comes into the discussion of how Fritters came to be our GM. Not making a hard stance, just wondering.

I don't see us as settling. Fitterer's been talked up as a potentially great GM for a while now.

Here's hoping he lives up to it.

I would take Berry 10 out of 10 times, and that is excluding his work this year. We missed on a great candidate in Berry. Again, doesn't change anything but that is lMO settling via Teppers mistake of handling Hurney.

It does give us someone to compare him against going forward that was a near thing.

Me too. I am also looking forward to seeing how this changes values in our system, especially at QB and Oline.

That's the thing though. Our choice wasn't between Berry and Fitterer. It was between Berry and Hurney. We chose Hurney.

As far as who comes out better, that's a question to answer in about five years.
