I mean, were they THAT high? They waited until the 5th round to draft him. I don't think you're waiting that long to draft someone you high on. It's like all the people who fawn over the Pats for drafting Brady at #199. They just took a shot in the dark on a late round QB they liked and they won the lottery. They badly missed on Brady's value too, they just were a little more correct than everyone else.

He wasn’t on a lot of people’s boards at the time.

tge story was  saying they find people in those latter rds that a lot of teams didn’t and that has sustained then for a very long time

how many rds 2 through 7 players have made an impact during the Hurney Gettleman years?

Literally just a play on his name, but I’m not taking anyone from the Seahawks.

On the plus side he should know how important it is to have a legit QB.

If not for Russ, that team doesn’t sniff the playoffs in that division

Beane didnt rise through the ranks as a scout though. I don't like that comparison. He was director of football operations for us from 2008-2014. Was then promoted to AGM. Hawks dude was their top college scout. Their GM had other responsibilities and couldnt spend all day scouting prospects like the director of college scouting.

I agree it's ultimately the GM's call and we don't know if whats his face was listened to or not. However, I would assume if you're paying a guy north of 500k to scout prospects and gave him a nice title, the GM is going to listen to him.

True. I can respect that. But even if you take out everything that I said about Beane, what remains is still true in my opinion (which I think you acknowledged)!

There's just no way for us to know how much or little they played in the decision making! People who run in those circles simply know more than is.

Two of my least favorite drafting teams are the 'Hawks and Pats. I'm no scout/front office guy, but a self-labeled draft nerd, and often find their moves a bit headscratching. By no means are they to follow ESPN's "Big Board" but some of their selections are serious reaches or very meh.

Who knows how much input or vision is any of these guys specifically.

Quite a few from Gettleman's tenure. Hurney's biggest issue after the 1st is that it seemed like he was always swinging for the fences on boom or bust prospects. The thing about mid-late round boom or bust prospects is that most of them will turn out to be busts. Sure, roll the dice on one every now and then but when you do it constantly you're going to have trouble filling out a quality 53. The meat of the roster on most good teams are homegrown mid-round picks.

Monti Ossenfort.

1.  Resume includes two different organizations that have embraced analytics and pushed the responsibility for integrating the data directly onto the scouts and coaches.

2.  Academic resume is superior to the others.

It's not an academic job.

I've worked with plenty of people with Masters who I don't think are competent enough to walk my dog.

You know they pick at the end of draft right?  Because their teams are already perennial deep playoff teams.  They are perennial playoff teams because they put the right team out on the field.  Would you rather they win playoff games and Super Bowel or win the draft?  We need someone from a winning program that knows how its done.  Not someone, like Hurney, that drafted countless Pro Bowlers, possible multiple Hall of Famers in the first round, yet can't have a winning season twice in a row...ever.

yeah I agree with what you're saying. Fans dont have a good grasp of what goes on behind the scenes. I'm not the type of fan that just sits back and waits for stuff to happen though. I like to be informed about the FO moves/ draft prospects so I atleast have some idea of who i would want and who I wouldn't. So in Fritterer's case, I'll I really have to go on is who the hawks ended up drafting.
