He's letting Ron Rivera run the GM search.

Having watched Snyder from his day one (lived in the area, although was never a fan of them), I would take that with a grain of salt.  He has a tendency to put people in charge, but then meddle just enough to thoroughly eff things up. Actually putting people in charge and letting them complete their work is out of his skill set.

That, as opposed to Jones, who begins meddling very openly and loudly about halfway through the process, if not earlier (sometimes at the outset).

Fair point.

From what I've read, I think he means it though. He really seems to  completely trust Ron Rivera.

Whether or not that's wise, we'll see.

The irony of "Danny Boy" is that I do believe he wants the team to succeed.  He was a big Foreskins fan when he bought the team, being a DC-area native.  What he has proven in 20+ years is he has no idea how to build an organization (or allow it to function) to do that, and he will meddle at the worst possible times.

Contrast that with Jones, who should know how to succeed because he did it out of the chute, but then his ego prevents him from recreating anything approaching that success.

What they have in common is their respective fans do not expect to hit pay dirt while either of them actively owns the team.

Well, a combination of his ego and the salary cap are what I think hurt Jerry Jones. When he could no longer just outspend everybody for the best players, the team crashed to Earth.

As to Snyder, it sounds a lot like how I felt about Jerry Richardson. It wasn't that he didn't want to win, it was just that he had no clue how to do it and his own ideas about the value of loyalty really caused him to stumble.

Funny you say that, I was thinking the exact same thing when I was comparing him to Jones.

That's not how the Cowboys got their success. They sucked the second half of the 80s during this outspending time period and drafted Irvin in 88 and then  Aikman in 89.  Then conned the Vikings in that Walker trade to get  Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, and Darren Woodson.  Their early 90's dynasty was built through the draft.

A big signing like Sanders came after the salary cap

Listen, Dan Snyder thinks he hit gold with Rivera...I mean the man got the WFT to the playoffs and the score was close with a 3rd string QB.

It only makes sense Snyder now believes Rivera can do no wrong!  LOL

Compared to the past he may have hit a gem. Then again the bar was pretty low which is why Rivera may have picked it. High profile, metropolitan and not much success in the past decade or two. Let's be honest if you had all the scandals then the name change, you lose your franchise QB in Haskins, and still make the playoffs wouldn't you be pretty happy right now. I think most Redskin fans are feeling pretty good right now. Let's see how that goes in a few years

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports ex-Panthers GM Marty Hurney is a candidate for the same job in Washington.

As are ex-Lions GM/current 49ers exec Martin Mayhew and Titans vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden. The Football Team operated without a general manager in 2020. As coach Ron Rivera continues to assert his power, it would make sense for him to reunite with his longtime ex-Panthers boss Hurney. Of course, just because it "makes sense" doesn't mean it would be the best move. Hurney is an average, at best, general manager. The Football Team still seems miles away from a power structure that actually makes sense.
