So it looks like we're leaning towards Ireland or KAM. Why do I think this?

If Peters were our guy, there'd be nothing stopping us from hiring him outright because the 49ers aren't in the playoffs right now. Both KAM and Ireland's teams are still in it, potentially blocking us from hiring them right away. Each passing day we go without a GM, the more likely it is to me that we want Ireland or KAM.

Same can be said for Joe Schoen. I think people are sleeping on him.

Don't like KAM at all. Browns, analytics and would have to pair him with someone that actually knows players. Hard pass. We should have fired Hurney and hired Berry, thats the only guy with the Browns I would want at GM.

Bummed about Peter's, seemed like a great candidate that checked all the boxes.

Why are you bummed about Peters?

Did you mean Dodds?

Yeah what about Peters, I read he was a strong candidate?

Dodds too but that makes sense.

As stated Ricky above, if we could we would hire him. It appears we are waiting for our guy to become available to hire...otherwise why would they hold up on the hire?

Contract negotiation, among other possibilities. Also possible they don't want to compete in the news cycle with the national championship.

Here's the thing though: Lack of an announcement doesn't necessarily indicate lack of a decision. None of us know what's going on behind the scenes. Anything is possible.

I'm as impatient as anyone, but not ready to panic.

All that could be true. I doubt it is contract, Rhule was hired in a visit and the the wrinkles could be smoothed over by now if Peter was the guy. I'm not sure how much of a distraction us hiring a GM would be. That's bottom of the screen ticker material they play in all sports games, at least for non Panther fans.

You got me with it doesn't indicate a lack of decision. Very true but it's still a bit concerning when the one I like is available lol. I think that makes me a little disappointed, not panicked. Now thinking of KAM as our GM, yeah that feels like a little panic creeping in.

He is. And he is my clear favorite. But the fact he is available and not hired is a giant red flag. I saw it posted by Ricky first.

The more I hear, the more I like about Peters.  From a mailbag with Matt Barrows (the 49ers beat writer for the Athletic), it sounds like Peters is the guy that has been running their draft.

Quote

How big a role does Adam Peters really play in the front office? I’ve been led to believe that, when it comes to the draft, the guy is almost de facto general manager, and losing him would be utterly disastrous. Is this accurate? — Sam C.

Well, when John Lynch was hired in 2017 he had never been part of a front office in any capacity, so he leaned heavily on Peters and Mayhew. Lynch obviously has a bigger voice than either of those two as far as who gets brought in, but in terms of setting up the draft board and all of the nitty-gritty that goes into the process, my sense is that Peters does the bulk of the work.

For example, when I requested to speak with Lynch about the team’s most recent draft class, he suggested I speak with Peters instead. That suggests two things: That the draft is Peters’ purview and that there’s no who-gets-credit tussle atop the organization. Lynch has openly acknowledged how important his assistants are and wants them to get GM opportunities.

In the same mailbag, he mentioned two potential Brady replacements if he gets one of the HC jobs.  Mike LaFleur (the 49ers passing game coordinator) and Mike McDaniel (the 49ers run game coordinator) are both hot up and coming OC candidates, and would be well known to Peters if he is the GM hire and Brady does move on.  Could be a logical fit.

Taking one of the guys that doesn't have a personnel background to me basically equates to putting Rhule in complete charge of the football roster. I'm not necessarily a fan of that model.

There's another part of it that bothers me more though.

Matt Rhule stated pretty clearly that what he wanted in a GM is a talent evaluator that can help him build a roster. If David Tepper chooses someone else, he's basically ignoring Rhule and overriding his wants with his own.

I would trust David Tepper with any financial decision, but when it comes to football I haven't even seen enough that I'd let him choose my fantasy football lineup.

So we'll see...

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
