So according to Albert Breer, Adam Peters got an endorsement from his old boss.

John Elway is said to have called David Tepper to put in a "strong word" for Peters.

Might help explain why Elway didn't seek an interview with Peters himself. He's hoping to help him get the Panthers GM gig.

That makes me think he might know that Peters wants the job.

"Oh yeah, Dave, Peters is sensational, I highly recommend him..... what's that, why haven't I interviewed him? Oh, sorry I have to take this call..... anyway, good luck with your search".

Elway's endorsement is legitimate.

When Peter's was in Denver, Elway wouldn't allow anybody to interview him until John Lynch asked. He wanted to keep him, but wasn't going to deny him a good opportunity.

Similar rationale here. He probably sees this as a really good thing for Peters.

Kind of like when Elway let us have Paradis

Elway couldn't even do the GM job. I'd think he was trying to send us a bum-legged Paradis again.

Wouldn't necessarily say he "sent us" Paradis. He just declined to offer anything much himself.

Unfortunately, instead of seeing that as the red flag it was, we went full speed ahead on signing him.

Why isn't Elway interested if he thinks so much of him?

Possibly because he thinks this is a good spot for him, or perhaps he knows Peters wants this job working with an old friend.

Peters was already a candidate here before Elway had even made the decision to step away from the GM role in Denver.

Hard to believe he would be that generous and pass up someone he thought would be a good GM.

I'm not, given his history.

Elway didn't want to lose Peters the first time, but he recognized that going to the 49ers was a better career opportunity than was available to him in Denver at the time. Plus he knew he'd be helping a friend in John Lynch.

Elway has another former employee of his in the mix over there too, specifically Champ Kelly.

So it looks like we're leaning towards Ireland or KAM. Why do I think this?

If Peters were our guy, there'd be nothing stopping us from hiring him outright because the 49ers aren't in the playoffs right now. Both KAM and Ireland's teams are still in it, potentially blocking us from hiring them right away. Each passing day we go without a GM, the more likely it is to me that we want Ireland or KAM.
