About the big school, small school thing.  You are recruited to college to play football at age 16, 17.  Many athletes peak at different times.  They are still growing.   Many athletes are hidden on bad high school programs, poor schemes, etc.  It is SO easy to slip through the cracks. To hold that against an athlete is not wise.   Do you know how hard it is to get noticed at a small school? There is no national TV, no media days, no agents.  You might have facebook. I played on a college team that had 4 NFL players on the team my last year (I was not that good) and only 1 got drafted very late in the draft.  3 others were undrafted free agents, and 2 of those players made the pro bowl and had 10-year careers.  We had 13,000 fans at our games.  While these guys were good, the difference between them and others as freshmen was not that noticeable.  By the time they were Seniors, they were elite. It happens.

My issue with Lance is his high school didn’t give him a lot of live reps to THROW the ball. Then he got to college and they limit his live reps THROWING the ball. The NFL is a completely different animal and his lack of pass attempts in high school and college are a major concern. He’s going to be hundreds, if not thousands of throws behind other guys like Lawrence, Fields, Wilson or even Jones and Trask. Every offense he has been in has featured him as a bulk runner. That’s not going to work in the pros. He’s going to be a guy that needs not just one, but two years of development and garbage time tape to get great at best.

He wasn’t offered as a QB. Fleck wanted him to play safety, I’m assuming NDSU only school to let him play QB

Mississippi State got Dak Prescott because they were the only major school that offered him at QB. Les Miles at LSU only recruited him as a HB/TE until the very end and then it was to late. I dont know enough about Lance except for the few highlight videos, but last summer, Daniel Jeremiah said he was fantastic and right with Fields and Sunshine. Pretty high praise from a very good talent evaluator. After watching several videos, I see a lot of Dak Prescott similarities in his game. If we do draft Lance, I'd be fine with him sitting behind Bridgewater until he got up to speed. Anyway, Teddy will not be our QB after next season.

If you draft Lance you need to be comfortable bringing him along slowly. Teddy in that case would start the next two years and then Trey should be up to speed.

The interview process with him will be critical.  Seeing what's in his football IQ.  The combine will compare his natural talents with others in the draft.  (if he is offered a spot in the combine).  If not than his pro day.

Rhule and his staff will have to evaluate whether he is worthy of a first round pick.  Maybe they pass and hope he falls to the 2nd round. (which I doubt)

I think we have to trust the process and if we pass on him than I believe our staff has done their due diligence and feel he's not the answer.

I wonder how many here would be willing to trade a second round pick for Jordan Love? We could use our first rounder on something else and grab Love with our second. When Green Bay had the chance to play him this year... they didn’t. They went with other backups when Rodgers came out and had Love inactive. I believe that’s what we would be getting in Lance and he’d be one year further in his pro development having learned from Rodgers.

I know there are 3 centers but they can easily be move to guard.  Nothing better than having versatile players.

I like most of this, but there is no way we can only draft one offensive lineman in the draft.

There's a post I read a while back about the Bills, how they just signed capable bodies and drafted guys to groom into starters. I don't think we need to go heavy in OL in the draft but sign some guys that can play football and develop rookies after.

I’m 100% fine with this. If we get Josh Allen year 3 that’s a win. Obviously I’d love one of the top guys and be a playoff team 2021, but in the grand scheme of things if you can get your guy for the next 12 years let’s do it.

We are seeing Josh Allen develop in a way nobody could have expected. I wouldn’t pin my hopes on Trey Lance developing into Josh Allen. Lightning would have to strike twice for us to be lucky enough to have him become that type of thrower and runner.
