NCFan end of Regular Season Mock 1.0

I like to post up my mocks throughout the season on the Draft/NFL board.  Since its now officially the offseason for us, ill go ahead and post it over here.

8. Trey Lance: you dont want to draft in the top 10 or so ever, but if you dont have a Franchise QB and are drafting in that range.  You Need to go after your guy.  Panthers fans seem to forget last spring it came out that "our front office was much higher on the 2021 QBs than this class".  Well its 2021, and we're drafting 8th.  Tepper and his aggresive mindset tries HARD to move up into the top 3 for one of Lawerence/Fields/Wilson.   Unfortunately there are some QB hungry teams ahead of us who dont budge.  So at 8, we are left with the "4th best QB" or a top CB etc.  We go with the QB, the guy who prior to his 1 game this year, was the one people were arguing about QB2 and not Wilson.  Lance's still showed the tools and flashes to have every excited.  One game shouldn't discourage you from drafting him.  If that were the case, you would've been upset with Mahomes after a poor performance in a 66-20 something blowout loss to a below avg Iowa State squad, or upset with several games of Josh Allen at Wyoming that left some people scratching their heads.

There are also those that question his "only starting 1 season" comparing him to Mitch Trubisky.

Well here is a fun fact for you, our last franchise QB who took us to the superbowl and was league MVP only started 1 season of D1 football.   Lance has the tools that Trubisky didnt have, he has that arm talent.  Now dont confuse arm talent with "throwing it 60 yards dow field".  We've seen Grier do that in College and Bridgewater do it here.  Arm Talent is the ability to throw the ball through windows 20 yards downfield with velocity.  Lance has that.  Lance's film from last year actually reminds me a little of Mahome's Texas Tech film.

Lance IS the least ready to start as well among the top QBs.  But with Teddys contract, he isn't going anywhere next year.  So expect Lance to sit under Teddy in 2021 and being handed the reigns in 2022.

40. Josh Myers:  it's not even a question that the OL needs a overhaul as well.  Taylor Moton needs to be back next year for starters.  Matt Paradis is the Only starting OL under contract next season.  Paradis though, may be a cap casualty.  He is one of former GM Marty Hurney's terrible contracts.  Myers is a Tough Mauler in the middle.  And listening to Rhule (who is a former OL coach) speak, him describing OL sounds like he is describing Myers.  Myers is the 2nd best Center in this draft and expected to fall in our range.

65. Paulson Adebo:  Adebo is a long athletic CB who falls due to the depth of this CB class.  When in striking distance, the Panthers waste no time trading up a few spots from their 3rd pick.

109. Jeremy Ruckert:  i was one of the leaders of the draft George Kittle train coming out, pounding the drum for the Panthers to draft him in the 3rd.  I now give you my next TE crush, the guy who reminds me of the Iowa Kittle.  Ruckert is a solid athlete, with good hands, who is a more than willing blocker.  He hasnt Necessarily flashed or put up the big numbers mainly due to the offense (alot like Kittle at Iowa)  but the Clemson game showed flashes of what he can be.  TE has been a hole since Olsen started getting hurt,  and the TE class is a deeper position group which slides him to our 4th pick

148. Ihmir Smith-Marsette:  Ihmir is being projected as a slot WR and a return guy in the NFL.  I dont expect Samuel to back which will leave a hole. Ihmir reminds me a Lot like Robby Anderson on film, but the Athletic Ihmir would be a nice fill to the WR room

171. Keith Taylor: Panther again move up, this time for their last pick.  Taylor is a big Hybrid CB, who may be a great scheme fit for Snow's big Nickel.

I like most of this, but there is no way we can only draft one offensive lineman in the draft.

Cant fill every single hole in the draft.

And your not going to reach specifically for a certain position.  CB is arguably by some, just as big a need as OL.  So getting a guy like with the 3rd pick is > than the OL Project will be sitting around there.

Same said with the later picks

I’ve never watched Trey’s film until your vid. I actually feel way better about him after that. I always assumed he was someone who was just Uber athletic and that’s why he was so highly coveted (this is still true) but I love that the bombs he threw were on the money. Horrible defense on most of them, but he put the ball where it needs to be. Also, on the broken plays in the red zone he didn’t immediately take off. Lots of TDs where he kept his eyes downfield and found his guy. Fug it I’m game, stay at 8 and take this kid and let Teddy sit. Only way I wouldn’t is if Fields is still there at 45, then you gotta go get him from Cincy

I like the first pick, would be happy to grab best QB available.  The rest can be OL with LB/secondary in there as well.  We are good on WRs and I think TE is a luxury with current situation.

I think drafting another WR is a good idea if we left Curtis walk and we keep Brady. Need 3 WRs plus CMC

why did lance end up at NDSU? It just scares me taking a guy who decided he didn't want to play in the highest division of football.

He wasn’t offered as a QB. Fleck wanted him to play safety, I’m assuming NDSU only school to let him play QB

All the Power 5 teams who showed interest wanted him to change positions. You could maybe be concerned that those teams didn't view him as a legitimate QB prospect but 1) his high school ran the wing-T offense so he didn't get to showcase much of his throwing ability then, and 2) his subsequent tape at NDSU proved those schools wrong and should allay anyone's concern about his quarterbacking ability.

a quick google also shows me that he is a stand up guy as well. Nice to know
