News on Joe Brady

Poor Brady. His scheme was great this year. It sucks he’s still being blamed for the offense’s lackluster performance.

Red-zone play-calling could/should improve but that was the only major flaw I saw.

I think his need 1 yard in crucial moments playcalling was pretty bad at times.

At least Chud set the table for our franchise QB. If Brady is one and done he didn't even do that.

Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the guy. If the opportunity is there, go. But I honestly hope that he realizes he isn't ready yet and is interviewing now just for the experience.

If someone flashes $20,000,000.00 in front of my face...you can bet your ass I'm signing, and I'll do my very best to figure it out as I went along.  Not going to fault Joe if he goes, but I do think that it would be a mistake on the teams part.

Him with the Chargers could make some sense though.  They need a POP out there in LA.

As a flaw, though, that's probably as big of a one as you can get. Hopefully he will improve if he stays with us. If he goes elsewhere, he doesn't need to change, nope, not at all.

You damn right. Especially since coaching contracts are guaranteed unlike player contracts. I can be a Lane Kiffin or Josh McDaniels level disaster and still get fired with generational wealth in the bank. Sweet!

Like, what coaching staff could he bring along? I don't think he has the connections at the moment. I really don't think he's ready yet.

Also, he's barely got his feet wet in the NFL and seems like a coordinator, not a coach.  He's so green and on top of it, was with a green staff with little NFL experience.

They managed well given that, but holy heck, he'd have to really impress to land a job this early in his career.  The LSU players loved him and he did okay year 1 given the circumstances but I'd have great hesitation with giving him the keys as much potential as he seems to have.

Please NFL, let us build something. Shouldn’t there be a rule if you get an OC or DC he has to stay two years minimum? How can bad teams have continuity if their coaches and front offices get picked clean. Good for Brady if he gets it though. Losing him and Peetz would suck major poop.

No doubt...it's why I shake my head when I hear people ask "why did coach X sign with the Jags?"....it's all about the money honey.

Nobody is arguing what you just said here.

Shhhh... he thinks he's being smarter than everyone else. He's like Hurney on draft day mouth watering over that "1st round talent" that everyone is still bypassing in the 2nd round but he's the one who has it all figured out.

Brady should also think about the respect issue that may arise as a young coach.

I think he is a pretty affable guy, but once a team/vets turn on you kiss your azz goodbye.

No, he shouldn't.

He should sign the deal, do his dead level best, make a ton of money, and enjoy his next 30 years being employed by an NFL team if he chooses to do so.

I mean if one only cares about the $$$ and possibility of never being an NFL HC again, then I agree.

How many times has Chud's name come up for a HC job since that Browns debacle?

He’s gonna be gone this year or next. So don’t draft or bring in a qb just to specifically fit his system. I’ve seen a lot of posters saying can’t draft such and such cause he doesn’t fit Brady’s system. Draft on talent alone and build around what that player does well.

excellent point

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
