Darnold:

-Darnold makes the most sense to get rid of if a team plans on moving on from their current QB.  Stafford would be next, but again he wasn't the reason the Lions sucked this year.  So changing just for the sake of change makes zero sense.

Darnold doesn't make sense to get rid of unless there is good value involved. After all, that is a very cheap price for a starting caliber backup.

Miami's slot is worth our first and two seconds in a reasonable world.  However, Miami already has more draft capital this year than any other team.  There just isn't much incentive for them, meaning it would cost us more than what would otherwise be considered reasonable.

A lot would also depend on who their preferred target is. If they value and want Sewell, it would cost significantly to trade because of the rarity in his grade. If they want Chase or Smith to give Tua an actual weapon, they could be happy to move down, add a couple 2nds AND save a little money on the contract difference  from pick 3 to 8

I can't see the Lions and Falcons moving on From Stafford and Ryan respectfully.  Those team sucked this year but you can't lay fault purely on the QB position.  Both guys put up really respectable numbers.  The Dolphins and Bengals will not draft a QB.  Jags will take Trevor and the Jets are 75/25 to take a QB.  The Eagles are about 50/50.  A worse case scenario has us taking QB#4 at pick 8.  Best case scenario has us taking QB#2 at pick 8.  Play the average and we are looking at QB#3 with the eighth pick.

I was under the impression Stafford was pushing for a move?

True, but playing devil's advocate for the chicken little's crying about 4/5 QB being taken before us at #8.  Darnold's contract is cheap, yes, but if you were 100% ready to move on in 2021, his dead cap would be most tolerable.

Top QB salaries at $40-50m makes the rookie pool even more attractive, especially if the cap decreases.  Will teams like Philly look for ways to get out of big contracts, like Ryan, Wentz, or Stafford?  They may start looking at contracts, decide when they can get out of these big deals, and draft replacements now to groom behind the veterans.

Do you sit top 10 picks on the bench to groom?  Rogers was at the bottom of round one in his draft class as well as Love last year.  Top 10 picks (top 7 picks more specifically) play day one.  I can't see Stafford or Ryan playing the wet nurse role.

I would not be surprised if the Dolphins take a QB.

I can't see it, they have draft ammo to get weapons with actual NFL talent. They also need a new OC with a scheme to fit him.

However, if they did the Panthers should be on the phone asking about Tua immediately. Unlike Miami, we have weapons and a scheme that he can thrive in.

You do if you think it's the future of the franchise. At some point you just have to move on and it is past your QB of the future sitting there a year learning then you can move on with probably greater success than just picking a guy and throwing him in and seeing what happens

I don't see a scenario where he is cut. I figure if they really do decide to move on, he'll get moved for some sort of draft capital. I'd shop him for a 2nd or 3rd draft pick prior to the draft if I was dead set on Fields or another QB.

That is going to be one of the most interesting situations this offseason.

You need to see Detroit and Atlanta as QB potential spots. Stafford can easily be released after this year and Ryan after next year. Atlanta could easily be in full rebuild mode after 2021 based on their big contracts. Detroit needs to try something else as well. Will they decide to go that way? Who knows, but they absolutely could go QB if they find someone they like better, especially Detroit where they’d save a mint on QB $$$ from 2022-2025.
