A TE at #8 when the TE position is not a key piece in the Brady offense makes no sense.  This is the one position I would like to address in FA.  I was on the draft a high TE bandwagon for 3 consecutive drafts from 2016-2108.  That ship has sailed.  Too many other key positions to address.  Plus, if you do draft a rookie QB at #8, you need a veteran TE security blanket, not another rookie trying to figure things out.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

I wouldn’t mind trading down and taking Pitts for the next QB that comes in (wherever he’s from) while loading up on some olineman with said picks, especially if the FO doesn’t believe any QB left at that point is a franchise player, it’s stupid to take a QB just because.

...don’t know why doing so would somehow misconstrue people to think they’re building around TB who is literally only here one year longer at max

Just because they don’t draft a QB this year or because no one on this forum knows their plans for the QB of the future doesn’t mean they’re sticking with TB. Lots of indications of the contrary. It *might* actually take more than one draft pick/season to find a franchise QB despite Madden suggesting otherwise. I’m sure people who’ve watched the NFL long enough realize this. Pitts will be a beast and valuable offensive asset.

Teddy is the type of QB who needs a great roster to drag him into the playoffs. As of right now our roster is below average, and the result was a below average record. This off season we can reasonably build up our roster to around average. That would be a reasonable expectation, and Teddy would bring us to around an 8-8 record with that roster imo.

At some point, after several seasons of building, we'll have a roster that can take Teddy to the playoffs. The problem is that the playoffs will bring us up against the top QBs in the NFL. That means that no matter how good our roster, we're going to face some team with a Mahomes, or whoever are the dominant QBs of the future, and they're going to carve us up, especially in the 4th quarter when they air it out. We'll get bounced because Teddy isn't good enough to out pass them, and passing is the key in today's game. Then we're looking at grandpa Teddy and our 8-8 Panthers hoping for a "miracle roster" where everything falls into place perfectly. Sad.

Or we can take our shot at drafting a possible future superstar QB with our 8th pick in the draft. If we're not going to take a QB, then we need to trade down for extra picks because we're going to need them. If we don't go QB, then we have to worry about building a stout defense and a good offense. It will take several seasons to build up both sides of the ball, and even then we'll get bounced in the playoffs when we finally make it. The Teddy Panthers are going nowhere and the Panthers know it. That's why we were going to pounce on Hebert and dump Teddy as soon as he was ready to start.
