Richardson vs. Tepper

Since David Tepper bought the Panthers in 2018, they are 17-31. 

Just for speculation sake, how much better/worse would the team’s performance be right now if Richardson had never had to sell the team? I’m not talking about the creepy and racist sh*t Richardson did, because of course the team is better off without that garbage, so let’s not even go there. I’m talking purely about team performance on the field and wins and losses.

I feel like the 2018 season would have gone exactly the same since Tepper officially took over in May 2018 after the draft and free agency took place. 

2019 is a divergent season. Perhaps Richardson would have made the same choice to retain Rivera for another season despite a monumental collapse in the second half of the 2018 season. Maybe he would have moved on from Rivera? Seems likely he would have retained Hurney just the same. Maybe the Panthers would have drafted a QB earlier in the 2019 draft? Who knows. 

But all things the same, we know 2020 would have been different under Richardson. Rhule was a bit of an unconventional head coach hire in league circles, especially for how much money he got. Also, Richardson might have wanted to give Cam another season and hire a coach to build around Cam. I remember Eric Bienemy saying he would be excited to work with Cam when he interviewed, but who knows if that was just coach speak. Maybe Hurney would have been let go sooner? Richardson did already fire him once. 

Just something I am thinking about after a third straight miserable season under Mr. Tepper’s ownership.

Marty Hurney would still be GM, and would keep the role for as long as Richardson lived.

They really are. Tepper has come out and admitted that this thing is gonna take time.

He let Marty go but that won’t be enough unless he brings 2015 Cam Newton back somehow.

I'd say it's fair to question Tepper at this point.

3 seasons? Vs..20?

the hell can you base of that?

Here is a fun fact in JRs 20 years of the team he had an overall regular season W/L  that was at the around 23 in the NFL since 1995....so bottom 3rd...you’d have to try to do worse

Way too early to do this.  Tepper has had some miscues, but he's also not exactly gotten a fair shake record wise. 

• Cam breaking down
• Luke retiring somewhat unexpectedly 
• Our 2015-2018 core essentially vanishing or being plagued with injuries. 

2020-2022 will be the more "fair" 3 year look at Tepper.
