We really screwed up by winning last week. We’re going to have to move up to the top 5. Hopefully, Philly wins tonight but if not, it shouldn’t be too bad going from 8 to 4 or 5. Definitely will have to give up a 1st next year, though.

I'm willing to do that for a QB

People don't trade up into the top 5 for a Qb because its fuging retarded and costs way too much. That should be all the information you need to understand why it's a bad idea to try and trade up into the top 5. Rarely does it happen, if ever because most GMs/HCs are trying to not get themselves fired for mortgaging their future

wow so it's true because you say that it is

forgive me i had no idea

All QBs will be taken before we pick.  Haven't you heard?

I mean

A lot of times, top QBs are off the board by 7 (we will draft 7-8)

The top 3 QBs went off the board in the top 6 last year.

2019 Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones went in the top 6

2018 the top 3 QBs went top 7

I mean I'd make some phone calls and see if we can pull a fast one on one of those teams. Gotta extend all avenues. If we can't get the QB, trade down, trade down, trade down, man.

We'll need the trade assets and draft picks to rebuild the offensive line and to move up next year, possibly for Howell or Rattler. Play the long game.

can you show me some data that compares QB's taken in the top 6 vs outside the top 6?

I'll save you sometime, it doesn't help your case.

And that's great! How many picks did each team give up for that respective player? 1 pick each right? If that player then fails it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as trading 3 fuging 1st rounders for him to fail all the same.

We went with Teddy Bridgewater, a guy who if he played his best at all times maybe could have snuck us into a WC spot, that was the thinking I'd imagine. I'm sure Rhule didn't go into the season wanting to secure a top 3-5 pick in the 2021 draft so we'd have our pick of the top Qbs. He wouldn't have brought Teddy in if that was the case. Teddy proved to be worse than what we signed him for, and now here we are picking at 7/8 and in Qb purgatory unless lightning strikes

If it was a good idea you'd see teams trading up into the top 5 every year. They don't. Because it's a bad/stupid idea and again, it costs too much.

Weren't the Jets the last team to do it when they traded up for Darnold?  Worked out well for them.  They are once again in the top 5 drafting order, while the team that suckered them is in the playoffs.

except they do, it's happened multiple times in just the last few draft's and absolutely would've happened last draft with MIA if need be, and in the case of the jets, who made a comparable deal, was done without a single additional first.
