He’s still going first overall. Teams and scouts aren’t going to panic like fans off of one game.

Yes, one game doesn't decide the fate of the top rated QB for years.  I still don't think he's a sure fire hit a la Luck etc.  I may be wrong and wish all the young guys the best in the pros.

LOL! Dabo is such a mouth breather. He doubled down on his statements. Said he didn't regret anything he said. That any team that hadn't played at least 9 games had no business in the top 10. He mad.

Can't say that when you just got your ass handed to you by said team.  Take your medicine like a man!

Where’s all the guys saying Fields can read the field? I pointed out earlier in the game he was going through multiple reads even on the first plays and they all went quiet.

I'll step up and say I didn't think Fields went through his progressions well.....all season long.  I was surprised to see it tonight, but will hold total judgement to see how he does against Bama.  His O-line deserves a lot of credit for allowing him time to go through his tree.

Hell what could he say at that point. My bad? He had to stand behind it. Bigger thing to me as you n I spoke on it. Does that missed TE early open up a 14-0 lead and what does that change in game dynamics? Kind of reminded me of the Cothery robbery in the Superbowl. That one play changed the game. Disgusting the booth didn't even get it right.

I actually wanted Fields to play lights out, that way Wilson drops to us.

I think the truth was always Lawrence was going to be the first QB off the board and Fields was always going to be second. I think scouts and NFL people look at the body of work and understand that this is an odd covid year. Fields sophomore year was still better than Wilson’s season this year. And it was against better competition.

People bring up Fields having time to throw in this game so he was able to go through progressions and ignore the fact that BYU had the best offensive line on college football against the competition they played. Fields was always being judged under a much harsher microscope than Lance or Wilson.

On a national stage last night even for most haters Fields went from undesirable to undeniable.

OSU has more 5 and 4 stars than the entire big 10 combined, the talented disparity between OSU and the big 10 is bigger than any single team in a conference. Fields fifth string WR would be BYU most talented, so using the “level of competition” argument  hold no weight. Wilson is playing in a even playing field in the MWC.

Wilson had over 40 TD this season, the last time a BYU QB had over 40 TD in a season was 25 years ago. Meanwhile OSU just had a QB two years ago throw for 50 and a 10 year span they have had about 5 different QBs account for over 30 TD in a season.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
