He was, but I remember him being the 3rd or 4th ranked QB that year. 
 

The chiefs got a lot of C and D draft grades that year.

You do what you can if you see a franchise changing player.

I can turn that around on you--but you are right--we need both.  A better qb should be worth that 1 score.  However, if you do not take the QB now when you are picking in the top 10 when 6 QBs are projected first rounders, I do not know when you take a QB.

I would also add that Carter and Thompson were not bad when Whitehead was benched.

And I think drafting a QB in year 2 was part of the grand scheme/big plan.  Last year, we addressed the defense in the draft--we now have a core--but we have a few holes (MLB, CB, S) yet to fill. However, I think the plan is to take the QB in round 1 and build the OL and TE around him.  We extended CMC before we needed to and we did not address Moton and Samuel--that is odd, is it not?  Just a hunch.  However, if you have Fields, you need linemen that can move laterally; he moves the pocket a lot.  If you draft Lance, he can run the option etc.  Wilson needs a pocket--linemen that can anchor.  We have 2 starting linemen on 1-year deals and we have a RT with no contract for 2021. We do not have a TE yet--do we need a blocker who can pass block; a pass catcher only; an Hback, etc. ?  It just seems that this is the play this year.

Good linebackers are taken on day two almost every single year. In the modern NFL spending a top ten pick on an off ball linebacker is an awful allocation of resources.

I’m not for reaching for a qb, we really set ourselves back by signing teddy. 

and half the board called it when it happened, was happy before the win against the WFT to get sewell or the 3rd qb but now we are out of range and picking a qb just to take one doesn’t sit well with me, gotta pray we land a guy in the 2nd or fa that can put us over the top

Also keep in mind this is a deeper QB class than most. Lance might be the 2nd rated QB if this way next year’s draft.

Shaq has improved and JCJ has been solid. We don't need LB at all and even if he's an upgrade to JCJ or Shaq, it won't change or defensive deficiencies that much.

If he would be anything like Luke it might be worth it. A player like that is a cheat code in the NFL. Keep in mind though. we drafted Cam #1 overall the year before. Not the same situation. Rhule has the defense playing pretty competitively. If we had a good QB. This would be a winning team even with Carter at MLB.

There is another point---we are not really running much (if any) Tampa 2.  In the Tampa 2, you need a LB who can check the run on play action and cover the seam.  We could get by (with players like Chinn etc) with a Surratt (UNC) or Browning (ohio st)--or even a Werner (Ohio St)  or Landman (Colo).

I'm just tired of having star linebackers that last less than ten years because of the wear and tear on their bodies. Those 125 tackle guys are like a ground and pound running back. I want a top 10 pick to have a chance to play a long time as a cornerstone of this Rhule Era.

I think Parsons gets picked before the 9th pick. I realize that off ball lb are not a commodity in today's NFL, but this guy can be special. In my opinion he was one of the best defensive players in college last year, and the best LB, and he was only 20 years old
