I'd give Haskins a look this offseason.

Yeah yeah, I know, he looked horrible. But he had no decent coaching. It's not like the Rivera regime were churning out good QBs. In fact, they are horrid at handling QBs.

I'd at least take a long look at him and a discussion or two.

yeah the guy is a hell of a leader.

By that logic we should also be looking at Rosen, mariota, jameis, trubisky and darnold. Might as well take on wentz contract while we are at it.

If you are looking for a backup quarterback there are less risky options with just as high ceilings at this stage.

Any of those would be fine for the right price as a backup. Niners, Raiders, and Saints did it with your first three you named. They seem to have solid front offices as well. Wendy would be fine without that crazy contract. I think he is talking about as league minimum 3rd string QBs. A player that can be easily cut negating any risk with a chance of high reward.

Yeah, he is a bust. Pretty clearly not a guy worth trading draft capital up to get and would have likely been available with our 4th round pick. He was overdrafted by a bad GM.

It isn't his fault he was set up in a position to be a bust.

He was a third round QB project! I don't consider that a bust, I consider it a gamble!

You don't take project players in the third round. Especially a team that had the needs that we had at the time. You need to get guys that can make your two deep in the first three rounds. The fact that we traded draft capital to get him was even worse.

We just aren't going to agree on this. Was he a hugely impactful bust? No. But it still hurts to have a guy on your roster that can't even make a substantial impact and you end up having to sign another player to replace him(PJ Walker).

What if Fields falls to us and we draft him while signing Haskins as 3rd. Teddy/Fields with Haskins 3rd string seems solid. I wonder if and Fields were friends from the OSU connection... Haskins has a good arm, he just needs guidance.

Uh, no.

What if we drafted fields and let somebody else deal with Haskins?  I want Haskins to be "don't let this happen to you," not some long-lost friend for a younger QB to connect with , and maybe learn from.  What exactly is he going to learn from Haskins?

The number of guys who have good arms but need coaching is pretty decent, and includes Winston.  The number of guys with good arms who need coaching and Dr. Phil to keep them on straight and narrow does not interest me.

If you are in line with Hurney's philosophy of drafting somebody who can contribute in the first, then playing around trying to find somebody who might work out if the stars align in every lower round, it makes perfect sense.  But that leads you to an average of less than one player per year who will be a contributor, because some of the firsts won't work out, either.

The fact that he could not wrestle the #2 spot on the QB depth chart from PJ Walker this year speaks volumes.

I honestly think that if Ron and the Foreskins had not made us an offer for Allen, Grier would have been the odd man out this year.  Somebody was leaving, and the odds were pretty good it was Grier right up until somebody offered us something for one of the three fighting for two positions.

He can't play and he has a bad attitude.
