I'd give Haskins a look this offseason.

There are levels of maturity in decision making. Ones that impact yourself, family, and your career. It’s one thing to jeopardize yourself. This was a whole different level of stupidity. I think we all grow up at different rates but some mistakes resound more than others. Especially when the guy sucked out loud on the field.

I get it and agree 100%---but the problem is not Haskins from my perspective in that post--it is how we reacted to what little we know.   It does not look good and he was being very stupid.  If you had given me millions at age 21, fame and accolades, and the pressure of playing QB in the NFL, I do not know that I would have handled it well.  A lot of the attitude about Covid 19 is not about the channels we watch, but the channels he watches.  40% of this country has not taken it very seriously; so have we been a good example? But what he did that was wrong (the worst part of this carelessness) not only impacted him, but it impacted his teammates, coaches, and fans.  Nobody is going to celebrate his actions, but they were on the WFT watch.  This thread is not about forgiving him and judging him at this time, it was about "kicking the tires" to see if he can be salvaged.  The Bucs brought back Antonio Brown on conditions; the Saints have Winston on the roster.  While I tend to agree with your premise, we do not know the culture that surrounded Haskins.  We know what was in the news and that he sucked bad Sunday.  I would have cut him too--just at the end of the season---we also do not know how many chances he was already given.  However, might a chance of scenery and a positive climate where he can develop in a system help him?  Might being the third string QB--with no pressure.  I am not saying that I know he will be fine or that we should bring him in, I am saying I do not know enough to totally discard the idea at this time.

In my post, I offered 2 possible different perspectives and then said, "He probably just sucks." at the end.  However, I was not going to arrive at that conclusion based on third-hand, sensationalized information.  He may be stupid.  He may be an entitled brat--probably the case.  However, Jeremy was not suggesting a 10-year, $500m deal.  We agree, but I am not willing to judge him yet--even though I feel that you are right--but to make that decision now would be biased and partially-informed.

I will be honest.  I do not want him here, based on what I know.  But to make 100% sure that I am right, what would bringing him in during the offseason hurt?  If you think he can make the team better (and that includes an assessment of his maturity) you sign him to a vet minimum deal and let him compete for the #2 or #3 job.  If he is a turd or dumbass, you fly him home.

At least you know you post this without hearing from people with no inside information or first-hand experience yet they have an uncanny ability to diagnose any given situation by watching television.  I think this is what makes our country great.

The way Ron threw Haskins under the bus after the game to (once again) avoid blame is typical, and anyone who buys into that is foolish.

Haskins sucked--we all saw that and can agree--but to say he was sleeping on the sideline---in 40 degree weather wearing a football helmet---based on a photograph or six seconds of footage---is careless.  What we know:  His eyes were closed.  What we all assumed: He was in the throws of REM and dreaming of Strip Clubs and fan selfies.  Careless thinking.

Yes, it looks as though Haskins is another Ohio State system QB and has the brain of a Jameis Winston, but he could be developed into a serviceable backup QB.

Absolutely true. Unfortunately we need a starter and if Teddy is the memtor/soon to be a backup to a drafted QB then this doesn't make sense. If we had a franchise QB and not Teddy? Why not, that's what a 90 man roster is for. Ending up with Teddy/Haskins is not where we want to be going into next year. I just don't think we are in a spot to be that team for him, especially with Walker being a solid 3rd/project backup right now.

Yeah yeah, I know, he looked horrible. But he had no decent coaching. It's not like the Rivera regime were churning out good QBs. In fact, they are horrid at handling QBs.

I'd at least take a long look at him and a discussion or two.

You had way to much snow over Christmas.

This wasn’t an alleged situation. The two determining factors of my stance to not bring him in are based on facts. 1) he was at a strip club breaking protocol laid out by the team and the NFL. He also broke protocol in an earlier event dealing with family which I’m not as concerned about but rules are rules. So we have not one but two decisions here. 2) His play has been abysmal.

Maybe he has potential to develop but as another poster pointed out there are a handful of other guys who could develop without the poor decision making.
