I'm actually pretty okay with picking at 9 rather than top 5, especially if we're looking to go QB. We basically get to pick whoever slips out of the top 5. Lance at 9 is a no-brainer. Lance at 4? Mehhhhh. I don't know. I haven't heard this much talk of "his upside is insane" or "we don't even know how high his ceiling is" since RG3, and that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence when you're rolling the dice with a top 5 pick.

Lance is raw.  He has all the ability in the world.  He's only a RS soph0more.  He opted out of this season after only one game...I think.  He's has just one full year of FCS play.  While he completely and utterly dominated last year, his resume is extremely thin.   A team would have to be desperate to take him in the top 5.  Unless the Saints lay an egg Sunday, we should stick about where we are at in the draft order and take this young man.  Groom him for a year and in 2022 dump Bridgewater while handing the reins over to Lance.

I will laugh hysterically if/when Trevor Lawrence decides he wants to return for his senior year at Clemson.

While a lot of you may scoff at the notion, perhaps you should take a look at the number of players who have returned to Clemson for their senior year when they were supposedly solid draft picks. For some reason, a pretty fair number of players don't mind coming back to play another year for Dabo.

That doesn't happen when you're the guaranteed 1st overall pick though. He's not going to risk a career altering injury before he gets paid.

Lance didn't opt out. NDSU only played one game. He played in that game.

Oh, ok, now I see why people keep saying he opted out (I had to look it up); his season is in the spring!

Technically he could have played, but pragmatically---because of draft preparation---it wouldn't have made any sense. He really didn't have a choice but to go another year.

Lance is who I’ve wanted outside of Lawrence. Yes even over fields and Wilson. So if this happened I would be over the moon excited.

the only other time I’ve gotten this excited about a prospect was Odell. A lot of what doesn’t get talked about is that Lance has the work ethic and “want-to” combined with his crazy raw talent. He has been doubted his entire career. Colleges wanted him to play other positions. He comes from a great Midwestern family and is cornfield strong. Massive arm. Meticulous about getting his mechanics better.

Matt Waldman did a great cut up vid of him that’s about an hour long. They were looking at his last year games and saying his mechanics and ability to read the field was that of a 3 year starter not a redshirt freshman. There are issues with him like every prospect. Specifically he tends to throw the ball low on short and intermediate routes but his deep ball is fuging incredible. He’s not perfect but he would be a great pick for us at 9.

How do you all feel about taking a player that hasn't played in a year or has played very little? Almost every year, there are players that are mocked very high but have subpar seasons and drop. With so many players opting out or in the case of Lance having very few games, there becomes even a greater risk.

Do we trust a kid in college to be able to be prepared mentally and physically to play after such a long layoff?

I am just curious to see what you all think about taking those type of players.

Similarly to Joe Burrow?  Granted 2020 a totally different ball of wax, but Joe did nothing in 3 years at OSU had a pedestrian year in 2018 and then an earth-shattering 2019.  One year of production.  I get it was in the SEC and against top-notch talent.  The point being, it was only one year of production, so a thin resume for a #1 overall pick.  We are talking about likely the #4 QB off the board.  Risky?  Yes, but I'd rather that risk with the #9 pick than a higher one.

Lance is way too much of a project to me. He could work out or be another QB with all the athleticism in the world but lacking arm talent. Sure, he can throw pretty far but he lacks accuracy, touch and arm angles that elite prospects have.

Sometimes the stats do tell the whole story, NDSU vs their first “real” competition against James Madison in the Championship game only asked Lance to throw 10 passes on a clear day while he rushed the ball 30 times. He completed 6 passes while running for 166 yards. I’d be hesitant to take Lance, give me someone with more arm talent than just an athletic profile.

I just don't want Fields from OSU.....this mock hit the nail on the head:  "Although I have my questions about his passing vision and ability to efficiently work his reads,...."  that is a death knell in the NFL.

I don't care if the dude is the most gifted athlete to ever come out of OSU, if he can't see the field or work through his progressions he is TOAST at QB in the NFL.  I mean this is Cam 2.0 without being as good as Cam was.....also we aren't exactly known for our OL prowess either.
