Huddle needs to stop crying about draft picks

True.

Look, I don't cheer for losing, and I'm not screaming about the fact that we won yesterday. But again, I'm a realist, so I can understand why some people are.

Can we build a winning team without having a top three draft pick? Sure we can, but we'd be fools not to acknowledge that doing so is significantly harder and quite probably takes longer.

Be patient? Sure, but patience isn't easy to come by in the fanbase of a losing team. And frankly, fans who haven't seen a winning season in a few years and have never seen a consistent winner can be forgiven for not looking forward to waiting a few more years.

I get it. Reality sucks sometimes.

For my part, I'm taking heart that the last few tentacles of the Jerry Richardson octopus are finally being thrown off.

That's at least something.

I'm not mad.  Especially not mad at the coaches and players.

I can still be mad at Tepper for keeping the floundering Marty Hurney in the building JUST long enough to completely fug up the inevitable rebuild.  Anyone that understood football clearly saw what was needed, and yet "the smartest people in the room" couldn't.

This team has yet again managed to take the wind out of the fans sails.

Dumb team.

I have said it numerous times, on field tanking is not real. It has probably never been real. Tanking is a front office thing. Tanking is jettisoning all your talent to obtain draft picks and setting the team up for failure. However, the coaches and players don't give a poo about those draft picks during the season nor should they.

I am not mad AT the Carolina Panthers for winning this game or trying to win. I am mad at Ron Rivera for being such a fugtard, shitbox head coach that he couldn't see what any fuging casual fan could have told him BEFORE THE GAME, that Dwayne Haskins is a fuging dumpster fire. He's been absolute poo this year and yet he still trots that assbag out there to throw the game. Typical Ron Rivera.

I kept wondering why Ron didn't yank Haskins after the first quarter. At least Heinickie was going to give it his all. Sheesh, had the kid had another full quarter to work with, we'd probably be talking about a different outcome.

I think we should be feeling alright with where we are in the draft.....

Precisely. And I see the Giants beating Dallas in a fight for the division and with Philly and Washington's general trajectories in opposite directions, I have them favored to win too, which would put us at least at 7. Atlanta nearly knocked off Tampa and Kansas City in consecutive weeks; they might finally finish off a win in their 2nd chance against the Bucs. And crazier things have happened than Detroit beating Minnesota or the Texans beating the Titans team they took to overtime earlier this year. If we somehow end up at 5 or 6, are people still going to be crying about how horrible this win was? Regardless, we should have a chance at a good qb prospect

I'll admit I'm pissed we won. I'm pissed because what Rivera had on the field was an absolute crap show and if we had played anyone else with common sense we would have lost. We weren't good enough to win but Ron still found a way. You'd have a hard time convincing me Ron wasnt ranking yesterday for some reason. I dont know what it was, other than maybe he's hoping the Giants or Cowboys win and knock them out of the playoffs because he knows they arent going anywhere.

Could be that, or Ron was proving to Snyder that his pet project in Haskins is not an NFL quarterback?  Ron seems like the kind of guy who may want to rub that in the face of the owner, without actually saying a word.

Haskins went to Ohio State. Since when has the college produced a legit NFL QB? I knew he'd be a bust as soon as he was drafted. There are always exceptions to trends, but I'd rather take a mid-round prospect than take any QB out of Ohio State in the top 10 (and that includes Justin Fields.)

The “winning culture” folks really just don’t understand the process. But sure, be happy we have bath water under center for another year as long as it means drafting for the offensive line that really isn’t that terrible.

Hopefully Tepper is smart enough to trade up

If building a winning culture is not part of the process, then why do all teams and FOs strive to do it. And why would guys like Tepper strive for a consistent winner when apparently teams need to try to win or lose based on draft position. I thought the goal was to win consistently and strive for the 32nd pick when apparently we should emulate Jacksonville and tank for Trevor.  That has worked out so well for teams who consistently pick in the top 10.

I just don't buy the premise that Ron "got even with us" or showed Snyder Haskins is not an NFL QB yesterday.  Let's keep in mind, the Redskins knew when they took the field they could sew up the division and a playoff spot.  And Haskins has proven he is not an NFL QB long before yesterday.  As for Snyder, he won't start inserting himself again for a couple of years.  He is like Jones, his buffoonery is not constant, just well-timed to sabotage those he has put in charge.

I just don't understand sticking with Haskins as long as he did?  But then again, we saw that time and again here with Ron at the helm.

His ability to react on gameday is still VERY suspect.

Honestly, I'm impressed Ron actually finally yanked him. It was way too late but in the past I don't think Ron would've made the move at all.

He has an interesting concept of how to adjust when something is not working: he doubles down, just doing more of it and expecting better results.....right up until it is too late to do anything that has a constructive outcome.

This is a fair perspective. I don’t root for the Panthers to lose, but I understand the reality of a high pick helps the team, so when they do lose I’m not distraught over it, it’s a bonus and makes losing more palatable. You’re handling it correctly. Others on the huddle are acting like the world is over and that the players (who don’t give a poo about tanking) did this franchise a disservice. In the words of John Fox, it is what it is. Huddle needs to get over their crying. This was always reality. Washington sucks and the Panthers are better than their record suggests.

It's almost like he's convinced himself before the kickoff that his game plan and preparation is far superior to the other teams...that it can only be the missed opportunities by the players as to why he consistently loses games.

Spoiler alert: yes.  General rule of thumb: anytime your question begins with "are people still going to be crying", the answer is always yes.
