QB Hits Allowed By Team So Far

Our OL has been better in pass pro than run blocking so this isn't too surprising. Figured we'd be 10-20 range, 8 definitely better than I'd have thought but we could still use several upgrades on the line. Also, you need to take into account what offensive systems teams are running and how many times teams drop back to pass which definitely affects these numbers. Our system is meant to get the ball out of the QB's hand faster so that helps our numbers out here.

Yeah, that is Brady's scheme. He is far from perfect but he does design most of his plays to protect the QB behind that weak ass OL.

Also, our run blocking has actually been quite good this year. We just don't run an offense that takes advantage of that.

Yep, our OL had been pretty solid this year, despite the claims of some around here.  Best our OL has been in at least five if not eight years.

We are 22nd in the NFL in Pass Block Win Rate, that shows that our OL has been bottom tier at pass protection. That stat eliminates the scheme and lays bare the poor overall performance.

I'd be interested to see pressures. I don't feel the OL has been as overall bad as some make it sound (bad at times though, for sure) but Teddy deserves some credit here for moving around as he does.

PFF rates us as #15 in the NFL in Pass Blocking.

PFF has us ranked #8 in total pressures allowed.

That’s if you believe “espn analytics”. I believe what I’ve seen watching 25 years of Panthers football and compared to what we’re used to, the line has been pretty decent this year. Teddy went from decent pocket presence the first three or four games to standing there watching defenders walk their guy right into him.

It’s either A) Teddy checks down too early before the play develops or B) the O-line has been solid.

Y’all can’t have it both ways.

Actually you kinda can.  Sorry.

Sometimes Teddy does check it down too soon, pretty much impossible to argue that.  Sometimes the OL gives him a good pocket.  Look no further than the missed TD to DJ against the Vikes.  You are unlikely to see a better pocket . . . ever.

Sometimes our OL looks trash.  Sometimes it looks ok.  This is actually the definition of the problem.  They are inconsistent.  You can't base an offense around a line that can't consistently win their blocks.  I don't think we need a dominant OL to win, but we do need a consistently decent one.  Once you establish that the entire field is attackable by your offense, it makes the opposing defense work much harder to defend you.

I know we like to say Teddy can't throw downfield, and that is the truth.  Unfortunately, the other truth here is that sometimes we just don't block well enough to allow those downfield throws.

We are a young, inconsistent football team.  That's who we are.  I expect it will improve, just not as quick as some would like.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
