@Basbear I like most of what you said, but I like R Anderson a lot....like what's that bear doing.... a lot

Kerr and Anderson are the only good moves made because Anderson could be extended. I’d probably extend him instead of Samuel. The rest was just awful moves for a rebuild.

Hes been great and that would have been a bad choice in my plan. I wanted to start Allen or Grier too, again hardcore punt. Walker did sign on, key is it was cheap, he'd been fine too. Anderson could have signed 1 year deal elsewhere or get cut after 2020, so hes not fully out of this plan....

Plan your work.

Work your plan.

Agreed.  I will say Samuel has been the most surprising player for me....I don't know if it is Brady's offense being a better fit or if Samuel is playing better/harder because it's a contract year.

Again, all this is hypothetical crazy talk, but let's just put names to the numbers to people balking at 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and whatever as the trade up. To me, our last two 1st rounders are about the best case scenario you could hope for outside of a QB/OT to rebuild a team.  So, would you rather have...

Door #1 - Derrick Brown, Brian Burns, Greg Little, YGM, Troy Pride (2 1sts, 2 2nds, a 4th).  Before the "why no Chinn", you want to assume 3 homeruns here? When has that ever really happened consistently?  Probably about the same odds we only hit 1/5 picks total here.

Door #2 - Franchise QB - Rookie deal

I love Brown & Burns, but even our own track record suggests we won't always land studs in the 1st. For every Burns, you're getting a Shaq or average starter the next year. The 2nd round has been a house of horrors for us outside of Chinn lately.   Again, IF you think there's a franchise QB there, to me...you trade a couple 1sts and a couple 2nds without blinking.

Outside of Greg Little? Donte Jackson, Curtis Samuel, Taylor Moton, James Bradberry. Oh the horror.

Definitely better than I made it out to be, forgot a couple of those guys are 2nd rounders.  Although I'd also argue Donte isn't exactly worthy of defending just yet, same for Samuel's one year of production in a contract year.  Gettleman did well in the 2nd round*, Hurndog was more miss than hit.

the other side of trading future firsts is you're clearing up cap space you won't need over the next 3-4 seasons. when the giants moved up for Eli, that actually freed up cap space to go and sign plaxico burress.

Obviously contracts are a lot different now, but there are ways to build a team without draft picks. if you have the good young core, which the panthers have, and you're shrewd with your free agent signings, you can go forward without missing a beat.

there's no one way to win in the nfl. you just gotta play things by ear and take everything as it comes.
