Tepper on Teddy

What actual evidence is there really of him meddling? I haven’t seen that yet.

And again, watching the games before coming over here is different than getting to personally know the staff and the players and also just because you have evaluated from the outside doesn’t mean you’ve been able to observe the team culture or assess potentially new staff to come in just yet.

It’s all armchair GMs saying this stuff. “If Tepper had watched the team before he came here then why did he keep Ron?”

Well maybe because before injuries took out our MVP, Ron went 15-1. Maybe that’s worth evaluating for yourself before you walk in and can the guy. Maybe actually getting to know the staff and discussing their plans is different from watching them team on TV and deciding you know how to fix everything based on just that...

I didn't say there was evidence of meddling - others are insinuating that it may be the case. With respect to to watching/learning he gave Ron all of 2018, which ended with yet another meltdown/major losing streak that had bene a hallmark of years prior, and kept him around for 2019. I just don't know what was expected to be different with that large of a sample size.

With that said I'm just a fan and not a coach/owner/etc. It just seems that there was plenty of data to suggest a different course of action and when that wasn't taken things turned out quite predictably.

I hear what you are saying but like I said. Being an owner is different from being a fan. Especially when you didn’t grow up a Panthers fan watching their games every week.

Taking over a team is more complicated than just firing the staff and hiring new people. For one, you want to get to personally know the pieces in place. Ron clearly wasn’t the answer, but he’s not a bad coach and he’s one hell of a guy. And the delay in firing may well have had more to do with the fact that at the time, Tepper didn’t see his Rhule type candidate available. Why fire Ron when there’s nobody around you really want to replace him?

I just think fans are like “he obviously should have been fired” without considering what actually goes into the decisions or knowing who they should replace him with. If Tepper didn’t like the list of candidates then waiting was the most sensible thing he could have done at the time.

Same with Marty. It’s pretty clear now based on what Tepper said last year that Marty remained the GM because at the time there wasn’t anyone out there Tepper wanted to replace him with. It makes perfect sense to me. Yet most fans just get upset that “Marty is obviously the problem” and equate that to “Tepper doesn’t know what he’s doing!”

Maybe Tepper knew he was a problem too, but didn’t want to replace one problem with another one. Let’s keep him one more year until the guy we want is available and then make the move. That’s genuinely what I think he’s done and I would much rather be that team than the team that fires one staff member after the next over and over because they don’t have a plan for what they want to build.

So this place likes Tepper again? Cause two weeks ago people here were trying to tell me he was an incompetent moron who knows nothing about football and was meddling too much in the team.

For the record, I have always been a fan of Tepper. From everyone shouting “tear it down! Fire them all!” The whole macho I run a business, I know what I’m doing crowd sure was convinced he was an idiot.

As I have pointed out since he got here, he needed time first to evaluate what he had. Then rather than rushing in, he wanted to start looking at the guys he wanted. Rather than foring Rivera day one, he let him play almost a season out and when it was clear he wasn’t his guy he went and got Rhule.

Hurney had an extended time here but it was always assumed that Tep wanted to wait on a particularly candidate or two that he really wanted. Seems now is the time to go get that guy.

Some of you on here have absolutely no patience man. Tepper, imo, has done a great job setting the foundation for this team going forward. Rhule looks like a great coach and if rumors are true, the supposed GM candidates look like huge upgrades over what we have had.

But carry on. Continue celebrating the guy you hated a couple weeks ago lol

I haven't seen any substantive change of opinion on Tepper. As for me, I've never waivered in my support. He can do what he wants and will get no flack from me. He probably has at least 2 more years of a honeymoon period from me. I'm not gonna fault him for seeing how things would go with Hurney and company, and I'm not going to fault him for hiring Rhule or anything else. Elite franchises aren't built in a day.

Yep. That’s where I man. He gets my benefit of the doubt and support for a few more seasons. We all knew turning things around would take time. Most of us accepted it would likely take 4-5 years. He’s got a couple more.
