Rhule may have had a part in this

He said HURNEY hired Rhule...that was incorrect. Hurney was apart of the searching process along other individuals. Comprehension flipped out the window huh?

Lol. Your quote “hurney had nothing to do with Rhule being here”

the fact is Hurney did. He had a lot to do with it.

They didn't push Newton out.

As I said at the time (elsewhere), athletes like Newton aren't walking through the door at Baylor or Temple. You'd best believe Rhule was excited to work with him. Hell, he was excited to work with Shaq Thompson (albeit he might have changed his mind after this year! :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:).

The problem arose when Newton released that IG video about being disrespected - he wanted a multi-year contract because of all he'd done for the franchise etc. It's all on video - the Comms guy at the Panthers handed Rhule a phone with the video on (was it at the Combine?) and, although he has a good poker face, you could tell Rhule thought "nope. Can't work with that".

$20m a year for a starting QB is very reasonable - and yes I think Brady pushed for Bridgewater once he knew it was a possibility to get a guy he was comfortable with running his offence.

My guess is that the video that Cam made early in the season after he went out with the injury...where he was smoking his cigar and drinking wine and telling us he lied to the coaching staff about his injury so he could play and lose the 1st 2 games of the season did not sit well with Tepper.  I bet his fate was sealed then.  I just cannot see Tepper tolerating deception.

Here is a staggering fact.  In 109 Hurney draft picks we spent 36.7% of our draft picks on LB and DB.

Is that really a staggering fact? Linebackers and DBs make up 7 of the 22 starters. 7/22 = 31.8%. Or taken another way, of the 55 players on our active roster per the Panthers website, 17 are listed as either DBs or LBs. If we exclude the special team trio who are rarely drafted (K, P, LS) that makes 17/52 = 32.7%. Is that really staggeringly different than 36.7%? Seems kind of logical particularly when you consider late round picks are often picked with special teams versatility in mind, with DBs and LBs fitting that profile.

Anyhow it's not a big deal. I just found that argument kind of strange. There are plenty of legit gripes you can point out with Hurney's drafting history.

Kyle Bailey was talking about a Zoom call that David Tepper had with members of the media this morning.

Tepper reportedly said that he and Marty mutually agreed that it was time to move on (yeah, sure).

But he also mentioned something along the lines of wanting to see better collaboration between the GM and the head coach, and apparently made some similar statements that indicated Matt Rhule and Marty Hurney might not have exactly been on the same page.

Makes ya wonder...

Mind you, Rhule has always spoken publicly about working well with Marty.

Of course, he also said he couldn't wait to work with Cam Newton.

What's your personal opinion/interpretation of what went down?
