Rhule may have had a part in this

Matt Rhule and Marty Hurney were never going to work well together. Rhule wants to rebuild a winning program and Hurney isn't going to do that. Kinda ironic that he was the one that hired Rhule. That's twice he's been fired over a coach.

The hell are you talking about?  hurney had nothing to do with Rhule being here.

Kyle Bailey was talking about a Zoom call that David Tepper had with members of the media this morning.

Tepper reportedly said that he and Marty mutually agreed that it was time to move on (yeah, sure).

But he also mentioned something along the lines of wanting to see better collaboration between the GM and the head coach, and apparently made some similar statements that indicated Matt Rhule and Marty Hurney might not have exactly been on the same page.

Makes ya wonder...

Mind you, Rhule has always spoken publicly about working well with Marty.

Of course, he also said he couldn't wait to work with Cam Newton.

Rhule has turned into the type of HC where you can't take anything he says about personnel at face value. I like Rhule, but I don't necessarily like that! But, as long as he starts winning, I'll forgive him for lying through his teeth.

Hurney was one of the people in charge of the coaching search, interviewed Rhule directly and - per David Tepper - went into "recruiting mode after hearing some of Rhule's answers and ideas.

Rhule returned the favor by helping see Marty out the door.

(granted, that's more of a favor to us than to Marty)

Tepper was the one who hopped on his private jet and went to rhules home to make him direct offer and seal the deal before he decided to go to the giants. Hurney probably helped with coaching search  but everything leading up to Rhule being here mainly came from Tepper himself. He pretty much made it well known during rhules introduction presser. We barely heard anything from Hurney directly. This was Teppers guy.

Marty: So with our top 5 pick we're gonna pick the best off the ball linebacker available, also, we need to sign Mike Davis to a 7 year deal.

Rhule: lol, GTFO

You know a nice fat contract extension for Davis was coming from Marty.

I like Mike on a team friendly deal but certainly not at the expense of Moton or Samuel.

And *hopefully* for the last time!

What is a little head scratching about all of this is that Marty Hurney lead and conducted the Matt Rhule interview in Texas. With the press conference intro of Rhule they raved about him, it's odd now that Tepper would say that Hurney's philosophy is not quite the same as Rhule? Why hire your coach who you don't agree with philosophy-wise?

Your assumption is opposite to what Tepper publicly said. Tepper said that Hurney was one of the main reason he knew Rhule was the right guy.

So leading up to this decision we knew there was a search committee which hurney was on. But all we heard about mainly was the connection Tepper and rhule had that lead to him being here. It supports the crazy contract rhule got so he wouldn't get scooped by another team. Did hurney help with the process? Sure....so Tepper is not lying about what he said but we are not gonna act like Hurney is the main reason he is here. Tepper fell in love the guy and made sure he got what he wanted.
