Rhule may have had a part in this

What if Rhule/Brady specifically wanted Teddy for 1 reason and 1 reason only -- to provide stability and a mentor for the young future franchise QB that we draft. We were very close to drafting Herbert in the same off season we signed Bridgewater to that "3 year $60M" deal. If the plan all along has been to get that QB in the draft and develop him on the bench to start, it's really not that bad of a plan. I just don't buy the notion that Rhule or Brady had any expectation that Bridgewater would be our franchise QB. Teddy knows Brady's system well and can help a young QB learn it. The best "do-ers" are not often the best teachers, but Teddy seems like a guy who can be a great teacher for a young QB, like Alex Smith was for Mahomes.

well said.  And only $35m is guaranteed--basically, the third year is a team option.

C'mon, Rhule was absolutely Tepper's hire.

Hurney was just along for the ride.

yep.  Tepper seems to understand the need for smooth transitions.  Marty was kept on board for that reason.  He was out of the picture for the most part--

Bridgewater may not be the answer but spending a 1st on a QB that could be out of the league in four years is crazy too. If the right player is there great, if not, do not gamble. Not on a first.

Look around the league. If you want a top flight guy, at some point, you're gunna have to trust your scouts and shoot your shot on a 1st round QB.

Most of us know this already.  But it is still too much for what they are getting from him.

He's a middle of the pack cap hit. There is nothing to bad about that risk for only 2 years. At worst you have a stop gap with high character for your draft pick.

And his contribution to the wins is exactly zero.  His middle of the pack salary is not worth it no matter how you slice it.

We've won four games, and he was inactive for one of those.

We could have gotten very similar results from Kyle Allen and saved a ton of money.

That is just speculation on your part. We need a QB and we need one this draft. Maybe he won’t work out. Well maybe Parsons or Sewell won’t work out we have no idea.
All I know is Bridgewater isn’t a franchise player and needs to be replace sooner rather than later.

I'm fine with coach-centric, what I worry about is Rhule possibly being power-hungry and wanting to run this like a college program where he is the end all, be all...  that's why I keep referencing the story about him and Brady being the ones that basically pushed Cam out and demanded we sign Bridgewater at the rate we did.  Hurney deserved to be fired for spinning his wheels for years regardless, but I fear if Rhule is given unmitigated and and unchecked power ober everything (like deciding who his QB is), and then gets it wrong, we'll enter into a loop of this same thing happening - Rhule makes a mistake, find someone to fire for it.

But again, Hurney was overdue for a firing and he was the last significant carryover from the last regime, so this was an easy move to make.

Whoever wanted to pay that much for Bridgewater should be out the door as well

who didn’t know that wouldn’t end well

Bridgewater is an NFL backup QB--textbook definition of one.  It was not his fault that he was offered $21m per season.  I'd sign it too.  He is a likeable guy, and guy who knew Brady's system and could transition everyone to it.  Let's not forget that Brady is not an NFL talent scout and he is 31 years old--still has a lot to learn.  And Bridgewater had upside--he could have come in and been good...but he did not.  While it looks good on paper in the off season, losing stings.  and this franchise has lost toooo many games to be building around a career backup QB.
