Either way, although the timing is a bit strange (Merry Christmas, Marty), it was a long time coming.

Honestly, I think it was because he was flirting with the Washington job. Hurney had minimal input in the Draft last year and desperately wants to be a GM and not a figurehead who runs the day to day while the Head Coach picks his own groceries (thank you, Bill Parcells).

Tepper thought "fug that, you disrespectful bastard" and sacked him immediately.
