Boston has opinions on Cam

Last week I was at a local store (wearing a Panthers sweatshirt). Saw a guy leaving wearing a Patriots jacket. I stopped him and had this conversation...

Me: "How do you like your QB?"
Him: "You want him?"
(I point at my sweatshirt)
Him: "You want him back?"

We chatted briefly about the ups and downs that both our teams have had this season, and went on our separate ways. The point is, a player's worth always comes down to on-the-field performance. That conversation would be completely different if the Patriots were in playoff contention after this weekend.

Browsing some news sites this evening as I heard about (but haven't yet seen the details of) the Patriots loss today, where I ran across this from https://www.boston.com/sports/new-england-patriots/2020/12/20/patriots-dolphins-12-thoughts, which sounds a lot like what we were seeing first-hand ourselves in his last two seasons with us (whether we want to admit it or not, injuries notwithstanding).

And then more clicking led me to this piece from Nov which may have already been chatted about here: https://www.boston.com/sports/new-england-patriots/2020/11/10/patriots-cam-newton-not-long-term-solution

We had the privilege of enjoying Cam play at an MVP caliber level for us.  Question is whether he still has that skillset in him, no matter where he winds up next season.  (Washington and NE are both being touted as possible places to land....)

Some of you guys are all dancing around the issue.

Have you watched any of Cams recent games?

It doesn’t matter who his WR’s are, he can’t throw anymore. He’s missing wide open guys, etc.

This will be his last year in the league. I doubt anyone picks him up, even as a backup.

If Cam wants to be a backup, then he can.  If Blaine Gabbert can get a job as a backup, so can Cam.
