They may not be thinking QB

Unfortunately, the guy who still has the GM position at least in title has also always displayed stunning lack of awareness of positional value. There's a reason why the Panthers have struggled mightily through most of their history at premium positions like OT, CB, and outside of the Smitty/Moose years WR until recently while having a glut of talent at LB and RB. Hell, you can add QB to that list too. We've had Jake, Cam, and straight up trash other than those two guys.

Last year was a historically good year for tackles and we needed one and we basically had the pick of the liter.  Of course we did the Panther thing and choose a dlineman.  This year is a historically good year for QB prospects and we are in the drivers seat for one of the top3.  It would be a Panther move to draft a MLB with pick.

Welp Hurney is gone so I have no clue what we will do.

A gENeRaTiOnal prospect? That's who you're waiting on?

That is what 28 NFL teams are waiting on. Look at some of these threads discussing which QB is better. News flash only 1-2 QBs coming out this year, will be NFL starting QBs long term. Do you think one will be available when we pick? Unless you are the QB whisper and can get Mahomes or Brady past the first round. Good luck.

I love Teddy to death, but if the team is picking in the top 5 they owe it to themselves to do their due diligence on the top QBs in the class. The way his contract is structured will allow him to more or less audition for a starting job elsewhere while helping develop whomever his replacement is.

The only way I could see the team not going QB in the 1st and it being acceptable is if they believe Micah Parsons is leaps and bounds ahead of Wilson and Lance, and even then a looooot of other folks would not find that acceptable.

If Fields is available though, you have to take him. No questions asked.

What if we fired Marty Hurney because he wanted to draft a new QB?

@LinvilleGorge will you need anti-psychotic meds?

Not sure if it’s been listed but Tepper has some thoughts, from panthers.com today:

Q: Is identifying a quarterback for the future a priority for the next GM?

Tepper: "If we think there's somebody, we're going to go for what helps the team most of the time. If that's that position, we'll take it."

Kinda seems like he may not be sold on Teddy and would move on the next one if the guy they want is there.

I find that difficult to believe based on Rhule's comments on Teddy in recent weeks. It would fit Hurney's M.O. to want to give Teddy another year and draft Micah Parsons in the top 5.

Yes.

for sure. How could anyone be sold on Teddy? He’s 0-8 in games where he had the ball last with a chance to win or tie. Winning a super bowl with a player like Teddy requires an all-time dominating defense, like the Ravens with Dilfer and the Broncos with a shot Peyton Manning.

That kind of success isn’t sustainable, and all Tepper wants is sustained success.

Read Teppers entire interview. It’s pretty clear he is over Teddy. He wants someone new.

Reach for a qb or take the tackle from oregon and not worry about that for ten years? Take wilson later. This should be the play

If we can get him---I thing he is Bengal Bound---and they would be wise to protect Burrow.  But if he is there--you take the LT.

Did you see Fields play Saturday? He looked bad throwing 2 interceptions with only 114 passing yds against Northwestern which obviously has little NFL talent on defense! Ohio state has vastly more talent than other Big 10 teams they play. I don't see Fields projecting well to the NFL. I'd rather roll the dice with either Wilson or Lance.

To me, it's Lawrence by himself and a then a drop off to Fields/Wilson/Lance. Any of those three could be pro bowlers or complete busts. I'd love to see the Panthers trade up for Trevor, but I just don't see any way the Jets/Jags trade the number one pick.

Fields has faced two good teams this season. He looked awful against both. It's definitely concerning.
