Trey Lance, not Kyle Trask, is the other QB we should be talking about

I'll give you that you said "right or wrong", but my response was in response to your statement that checking that box will cause him to not go 5th or 6th.

I'm not convinced that by him winning the Heisman he will go in the top 4.

I mean just ask yourself in isolation what sounds more like a top 10 pick

-big time SEC QB, heisman winner, national championship winner, massive statistical production

-FCS guy, played one game, regarded as raw

Throw in that we're already hearing the whispers that NFL teams regard him more highly than the outside does and all the typical offseason trajectory curves are starting to point a certain way

The one that has traits that translates.

Fans put a lot more stock into awards and stats than pro evaluators.

lol right

NFL teams are immune to such trivialities as "performance in big games" and "gargantuan on-field production" and "performance against high end competition"

how silly of me

I can kind of get down with the OP's thought here.  Unless the prospect is an idiot, find the guy with the elite tools and coach them up.  An elite arm can correct a lot of mistakes.  Seeing what Herbert is doing this year and the throws his arm allows him to make sounds a lot better than a prospect who is a potentially better Bridgewater who's timing/accuracy is decent but he has an average arm.

I didn't say immune, I just said fans factor it more, and I didn't say anything about level of competition.

It was just for hits. And yeah I believe he ran a 4.9 when he got to NDSU.

No kidding. He even lists Fields as higher than Lawrence. Anyone watching this year’s games would not have Fields ahead of Lawrence. I think this year’s class has a lot of potential but that article is from June where the last thing on everyone’s mind is Lawrence’s rough game against LSU. Struggling against that stacked team is a bit different than struggling against Indiana and Northwestern or Central Arkansas.

Also, I’m not reading one opinion piece and making it my opinion. I’ll watch the games and while there’s never a guarantee in life, there’s no doubt that Lawrence is the top prospect and one of the best QB prospects in a long time.

To defend that point at the end: Indiana was not only a top 5 defense when they played OSU they also lead the country in interceptions. Going into last nights game Northwestern was the #2 defense in the country. Even after last night they only give up 15.5 points a game. I can’t comment on Central Arkansas and LSUs defense last year was ranked 26th.

NW gave up 29 to MSU. Their schedule isn’t exactly a list of who’s who. I’d bet that there’s a lot more NFL talent on that LSU defense. They had 6 defensive players selected in the draft, 2 1st, 2 2nd and one each in the 3rd and 4th. Not sure what else they have going pro this year but their NT from the championship is considered a first round prospect as well. That’s at least 7 of the 11 going in the first 4 rounds with 5 1st/2nd rounders. Fairly certain that’s more talent than NW.

LSU played Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida and Auburn all top 13 teams at the end of the year. Northwestern played one team this year as good and that was OSU without multiple WRs and the RB ran for over 300 yards.

Anyway, not dumping on Fields or Lance, just agreeing with you that it was for clicks and after the 2020 season so far that June article has looked worse calling Lawrence the 3rd best prospect.

It’s hard to grade them on anything but their final mocks because anything from before now is more or less just clickbait.

You did see his stats for that year right? Let's not act like the kid can't air it out!

I see the stats. However during their biggest game of the year they only risked throwing the ball with an NFL talent how many times? He was 6 of 10. He only threw the battle 25 or more times one time the whole year. There are a lot of question marks surrounding his throwing.
