I don't know that Matt Rhule is tied to a particular system as much as he was tied to Joe Brady.

With that said though, even if Brady leaves we'll still have a roster that's most ideally suited to a WCO so it's hard to imagine that changing.

How so?

Outside of the QB I don’t think it matters that much?

Moton? Robby? Thomas?

I get it that Moore is a bit of a run after catch guy but I don’t think he is tied to the WCO.  Robby has more of a reputation of being a deep threat.

If Brady leaves we aren’t going to choose are system based off of what our center is best at.

only Newton was a mindboggling dominant runner.

Lance isn't.

so do you want Cam minus the historic ground game?

What if you get 80% of Cam’s running with better passing?

At the end of the day there is no guarantee on any of these guys, good or bad.

A West Coast system is built around receivers that can generate YAC. We've definitely got that.

You also want a quarterback that gets the ball out quick and distributes it among various receivers. For whatever you think of his quality of play that's very much Bridgewater's profile and quite probably will be what we look for in the next guy.

And then there's McCaffrey. McCaffrey might be the most ideal runningback for a WCO that I've seen since Ricky Watters. He does pretty much everything that you want or running back in that system to do.

One thing we don't have for the system right now is a good pass catching tight end, but that could easily change in the offseason. I could also see us looking to acquire some agile offensive linemen.

I get all of that but if Brady leaves Rhule isn’t  going to pick a WCO OC because of the players we have on offense outside of the QB.

CMC would be good in any system, Moore would be fine, Robby might be better.

Rhule might prefer WCO but it won’t be because of the personnel. (Outside of the QB)

Trey Lance terrifies me.  I know Jeremiah said don't get hung up on his completion percentage . . . I'd say, don't get hung up on your own evaluation either.

A while back I compared college QB's who made it to the NFL with their NFL stats.  I can't remember exactly how many I looked at, but it was a good mix of 20-30 QB's.  In every case but one completion percentage from college goes DOWN in the NFL.

I also worry about Lance as a runner.  Running QB's often make big splashes in the NFL . . . but then the game takes a toll on them far in excess of what it does to a traditional pocket passer.  Our own Cam Newton "should" have been the guy to shake that label.  If ever there was a physical profile set up to shake that mold, surely it was Cam.  But he didn't.

I would far prefer a passer with some scrambling / improvising ability.  Look at players like Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers.  They use their legs to enable their arms.  That's how they beat you.

If Wilson overtakes Fields for some reason, I'm *fine* with that.  If we come away with either Wilson or Fields we've won the first round.

Pretty much.

The problem with taking any quarterback based primarily on physical characteristics or superior athleticism is that those things have a short shelf life in the NFL. The guys like Brady and Brees who excel in the other areas are the kind that can be your franchise quarterback for a decade or more.

A coach who picks a coordinator that runs a system which isn't suited for his players isn't a very smart coach.

It's a whole lot easier to get a different coordinator than it is to retool a bunch of spots on your roster.

I'd take that.  I don't see Lance as offering that though.

Agree.  I see Lance as Cam lite.  Not as good runner, probably a wash as a passer.  I'd rather take a chance on finding the next Mahomes as opposed to finding the next Cam - as much as I enjoyed watching Cam play I think I'd rather watch the next Mahomes / Russell Wilson / Aaron Rodgers.

I got no interest in Cam lite.   I was down for Cam.  Cam was a uniquely special runner.   Nothing else like him.    We have seen tons of Cam lites come along.   They all become backups.  Lance's game  relies too much on his legs to succeed for me.   Got to be special for that to work IMO.

Don't see 1-3 trading out of their picks.

Cincinnati wouldn’t care about dropping down 1 if they feel we’d go QB or if Jacksonville decides they don’t like Fields and go Sewell. Also, the WC of the Jets and Lawrence. It wouldn’t shock me at all if he forces a trade. It’s already been discussed in the news so I’m sure it will be discussed by his agent/team. I still think he comes out but he could easily have some demands. Elway was 1983, Manning. 2004 so maybe the next one is coming in the 2020s.

Do wut?

"Young finished the game with a sack, a forced fumble, two deflected passes, a fumble recovery, and a touchdown."

PFF is the entire game. Was the sack, FF, FR and TD all on one play? Chinn had a sack and a FF that a teammate almost scored on and basically created a score. For PFF those two plays may have been extremely similar as the outcomes were basically the same, a TD. The ball bouncing to a teammate shouldn’t change that play’s grade that much. Chinn was all over the field all day.
