Is QB the right pick?

If we can't get a QB worthy of the slot, then I'm fine with a different position.

Otherwise, my plan would be to tag Moton, draft Sewell, and build our offensive line like crazy.  This stupid ass Teddy contract is going to be an issue, but it's too late now to worry about that, we gotta figure out how to get our of a Marty Hole again.

I like this plan. There are some good interior OL possibilities in round 2 and some good DTs that could fall to round 3. If QB doesn’t happen, we really could use this year to further build the entire team in order to plug in a QB at a later date.

edit: I also wouldn’t mind a trade or FA signing of someone like Minshew or Darnold as a way to upgrade our backups with someone young that has starting potential. No clue what to make of Darnold considering how terrible the Jets are. Minshew is more intriguing to me because I thought he looked pretty good until his hand injury.

I think the only shot of that happening is if Lawrence REALLY wants that Heisman trophy in his cabinet. Is that worth forgoing millions for another year and risking injury while playing for free? That's up to him. Peyton Manning decided it was and he still has to visit Charles Woodson to see that Heisman trophy.

well, why did the other recent first rounders comeback?  I think that reasoning still stands for him as possible.   I mean, if you don't need the money and you know it is there.....why be in a rush to grow up.

I don't think he can win the Heisman at Clemson.  Hard to build the stats sitting down somewhere in the 3rd q in almost every game you play.   Think after Watson didn't win it...Dabo made it known his folks should forget about it.  He prioritizes reps for others too much at this point.

As bad as I want to replace Teddy, I could get behind this plan as well. I wish DJ Uiagalelei was edible next year, but he is 2 years away.

I don't see Trevor returning to school unless he just refuses to play for the Jets, and the Jets make it known they will not trade the pick will not trade the pick.

Clemson has a stud in DJ Uiagalelei that needs to play.  In 2 years he may be talked about as much as Trevor.

It looks that we will more than likely only be Available  to Get the 3rd best Qb even if we loose out and the teams above us win out we would get the 3-4 pick. Bengals isn’t going to draft a QB however it looks like the Jets and Jags will draft a QB.

so do we want to get the 3rd bear qb and possibly over draft or do we get the best player at another position?

a lot of time teams will over draft for a QB and end up getting a QB they could have gotten a lot later. Also is the talent drop off at QB going to be worth drafting one at our spot?

yes there have been plenty of times that a lower ranked QB ends up being the best QB of the draft. So it’s very possible the first 2 QBs are bust and we end up getting the best one.

then there is also the chance that the teams in front of us don’t draft a QB and we end up getting the top QB. I don’t think that’s likely but with all the holes the Jets and Jax are it is technically possible but highly unlikely.

so what do you think? What would you prefer?

The 3rd picked QB doesn’t mean that they’re the third best.

Am I the only one that read the article?

Probably.  I saw the source and took it with a grain of salt before seeing if there was any other information available.  In fairness, I have an equal amount of skepticism about any fan-based source, worse if they are from the NY area.

Totally agree with this. My question is, say Lawrence forces his way out of NY, and say the Panthers pick ends up between 4 and 6, what would it take to trade with the Jets?

I don't know. Depending on our grades it would be worth a conversation. But who knows? Maybe our draft grades don't end up showing the huge gap between Lawrence and the rest of the field that the hype would lead you to believe.

I don't know who those guys were who came back or their reasoning. But one thing is that there's a big gap between pay at the top of the 1st and later on in the 1st. I'd honestly argue you're better off going in the 2nd than the late 1st. Without that 1st round 5th year option your one year closer to that second contract and that's where the big money is. I mean, I definitely wish we had that 5th year option on Chinn.
